| I can't believe anyone could organize a list of expenses without subs. Gives you a lot more flexibility in generating reports. Thanks for the reply & the tip on using Shift + as I would never had known it existed. M2004 is the last version I will buy until they improve the program, not destroy it. | Unchecking the Single List check box would make the way to use subcategories more obvious. But, apparently, this is not what "most users prefer" as M05 attempted to eliminate the option entirely. Microsoft has since relented, partially, and exposed a registry hack for re-enabling dual list. You should try running both ways and see which you like. If you stay in Single List, and you type your entries, and you have Autocomplete set on, then you can just type Gas or Electric and Money will put in the Utilities: category for you. Alternately, and maybe better aligned with how you think about it, you can enter "ut" and Money will guess Utilities, then type Shift+; (Money will advance to the subcategory) then type g or e and Money will auto-complete Gas or Electric. If you mouse the whole thing, just keep going past the Utilities until you find the subcategory you want. Congratulations for even using Subcategories. It's another feature Microsoft apparently want to make go away--there are almost no Subcategories in the M05 default list. | M2004, In looking over a report I created, I noticed many expenses listed on report did not have a sub category designation. For example: UTILITIES has Gas & Electric as choices, but somehow I didn't enter the transaction correctly, so many went to just UTILITIES. Is there a way to force a sub category if one exists? I have single line checked in options. Would unchecking it give me my desired results? I just want to avoid an extra step if possible. Thanks, Scott |
