| Thanks everyone for your responses and suggestions. I have tried every suggestion here save for the uninstallation of the Investment toolbox as I have no such app installed. Perhaps that comes only with the Premium edition and I have only the Deluxe. There are other people in these newsgroups that are reporting the very same problem. One reported an after-synch balance in the trillions. I believe he too upgraded directly from 2002 to 2005 and therein may be the issue. I am convinced there is an upgrading issue from 2002 to 2005 involving MSN Moneycentral. The gentleman who started this thread, that I seem to have unintentionally hijacked, reports this (I think) as well. I had high hopes in the suggestion of using a new passport...a simple solution that seemes as if it would work. I took my 2005 file with the passport disabled, and enabled it with a new passport. MSN should have absolutely no connection to my original accounts at that point, but as soon as it synched...the now familiar 77k balanced reappeared. I didn't take the hours it would to double check this, but all the duplications seem to be in 2002 and 2003 in the registeres, both checking and saving. I am going to try to use Money2002 to archive those years, thereby removing them from the registers and try again. Thanks again, -Joe "Cal Learner-- MVP" wrote: - quote - > In microsoft.public.money, Joe Clark wrote: > > > Thank you though for sending the workaround, I should have mentioned that I > > had done that already. > PS!!!! > Do NOT use the same Passport on your Money 2002 and your Money 2005 > files! |

| In case you haven't already tried this, you can also try to disable sync (making sure to select the choice to delete the data from the server), then reconvert your Money 2002 file and then let it resync. It might be that the duplicated data was on the MSN Money servers. -Mark "Cal Learner-- MVP" <via_newsgroup[at]please.tnx> wrote in message news:di81r09ghat7tur6i1jv2hrb3t1thlqiri[at]4ax.com... - quote - > In microsoft.public.money, Joe Clark wrote: > > Thank you Cal, that was a fast response. > > > I actually have removed my passport and the MSN synch. I don't know if it will solve that or not. Please let us know if you try it. In Add-Remove Programs, remove MSN Money Investment Toolbox. Then use your moneycentral portfolio to delete each account with the non-deluxe portfolio. Then re-convert a copy of your Money 2002 file. If when you do your updating initially you find accounts duplicated, do the appropriate Merge right away. Incidentally, Money 2005 also made a backup copy of your Money 2002 file as *.m10. |

| Thank you Cal, that was a fast response. I actually have removed my passport and the MSN synch. I would love to not use the synch at all. Unfortunately, Money will not allow me to work online with either of my banks or one of my credit card companies without both the Passport and moneycentral functions also enabled. Apparently it has something to do with that Yodlee service. So to be more accurate the program isn't completely useless as is. It still does work as an electronic checkbook with great reporting features. But then again so was Money 2002. The main reason I upgraded to Money2005 was so I could finally work directly out of Money with my bank, mortgage, and CC companies. I can't do that until the MSN/Money function is fixed. Thank you though for sending the workaround, I should have mentioned that I had done that already. | Yes, I too have this version 14.0.120.1105. Its the only version I ever had since I updated the program before attempting to upgrade my Money2002 file with it. Everything works fine until the moment I do anything that causes the MSN Moneycentral synch to happen. Once that happens, hundreds of transactions in my checking and savings get duplicated as far back as 2003 and my balance one once account goes from approx 1,500.00 to over 77,000.00. Obviously this is a showstopper and I thank heaven I made a backup of the 2002 file before trusting it to Money2005. This program is useless until this particular bug gets fixed. But the first step is for MS to acknowledge it still exists and that the November "fix" had no effect on it. | Mr. Peel: Thanks for your prompt response.... What was the date of this online update? I was struggling with Money 2005 as recently as a week ago. Are you referring to the mid-November update? (If so, that didn't do it for me.) Or rather a more recent one? | Microsofties: So I spent several weeks and several email exchanges with Microsoft Support trying to sort out the numerous issues I've been having with Money 2005: 1) Money crashed often when trying to run my Money 2002 file. (Seemingly fixed with recent update.) 2) Money inserted duplicate entries into most of my day-to-day accounts going back to May 2003. Thousands of them. 3) Money randomly created duplicate categories. 4) Items 2 and 3 are seemingly due to Yodlee or the MSN website synchronization or something like that. I want to use the MSN syncing so my wife can easily tune into our finances. 5) Money did not reliably perform it's "Internet Updates" with my various financial institutions, notably E*Trade and NetBank, both of which have worked fine for years. Sometimes they worked. Usually they didn't. And there's that pesky duplicates issue. Thankfully, I had backed up my Money files, so I've personally rolled back to a prior version of Microsoft Money. I STRONGLY recommend that long-time users of Money do the same until the various show-stopper issues are resolved. Which brings me to my question.... So, Microsofties, any update on when the public Money 2005 beta test will be wrapped up? I'd sure like to use the spiffy new version, but I must insist on waiting until it actually works. So when's it gonna work? Matthew Coble Atlanta, GA |
