Have you also tried changing the account currency to US, just to see if that
is the source of the error?

Just in case you're not monitoring the topic... I've replied to your
post in microsoft.public.money, "Online setup says exchange rate info
missing". I've found that if I change the base currency in Money to
US, the problem goes away. Not a great solution, but perhaps a
starting point for a tech support call.

His problem is not with the OFX file, but with the Direct Download
(i.e., via Yodlee?). I am having the same problem (the OFX file works
great, but the direct download -- via "Online Services" -- reports an
unavailable exchange rate).

Try changing your base currency to US. This worked for me. My guess
is that Yodlee is omitting the account currency in the data they send
the MSN online services.

Unfortunately, it's a lousy solution, and I can't submit a support
issue because I'm using the trial version. Perhaps another Scotiabank
customer can, because I'm not buying the software until I know this is
resolved.

If you still have the problem, I would contact Microsoft directly.

I would rename the *.qfx file to *.ofx and File-> Import it.
Actually, I am not sure if the renaming is needed or not.

I suspect your other downloading involves Yodlee. You might try
contacting Microsoft directly to see if they can help.

Here's the beginning of the .qfx file that I can pull down if I go to
the National Bank's website. CURDEF appears to be as Cal says it
should. Any ideas appreciated.

My problem is with Scotiabank (Canadian), not Bank of Canada. For all it's
worth
I can use Quicken Xp 2005 to download directly from Scotiabank.

So far nothing has worked. Tried disabling Firewall also. I'd like to get
this program
working so I will be frigging with it this weekend.

These are some ideas. I don't know what is causing the problem.

In Tools-> Settings-> ProgramSettings-> Currency check that the rate
for the Canadian Dollar says BASE.

A possibility comes to mind: perhaps BofC is using a symbol other
than CAD in their download data. Now that I think of it, that makes
some sense in that you both are having the problem only with BofC I
think. What kind of download file are you getting from BofC? If it
is an OFX file, I would expect the file to contain "<CURDEF> CAD".

This next part is very speculative and is unlikely to help. It is
only if nothing else seems to explain things. Keep an extra copy of
your Money file in case you don't like the result. The idea is to
rename a currency that you do not expect to use, such as the
Albanian lek to be named CAD with symbol CAD. Set the rate as 1:1.
Tell Money to not update that currency online by clearing the
checkbox.

Now try the update. Money should already know that CAD is the ISO
4217 currency description, but perhaps there is something weird
going on.

Default Online setup says exchange rate info missing

In Money 2005, whenever I try to complete online setup with National
Bank of Canada (Canadian Accounts with Canadian base currency in
Money), I get the following after entering login info:
"money needs the exchange rate for one or more accounts". It then
suggests that I do an online update before proceeding with the setup of
the institution. That doesn't help.
