| After many attempts and many phone calls to MS Money Tech support I finally got my old MS Money file to load with the new update. I was experiencing all the same problems everyone else was, while converting the old file I got the Online Financial Services communication error…….etc, etc. At least for me, my problem seemed to because of a closed account that was setup to be used with MSN bill pay. (I used MSN Bill Pay at one point but stopped using it a while ago.) I simply changed the Financial Institution on the closed account from MSN Bill Pay to something else and the file converted with no problems. Good luck to everyone else!! | Did you happen to have tried MSN Bill Pay previously and then cancelled/disabled it? If so, then that may be the source of the problem. Try the following to see if it works. You can either do this in a version of Money 2005 (prior to having it update to 1105) or in your older version of Money (2004): 1. Remove Money 2005 and reinstall the original unpatched version. 2. Open Money and sign in Offline so that it does not patch itself (disconnect from the internet to ensure this). 3. Go into the Account Details for the account that had been using Bill Pay and assign it a financial institution ("not listed" may work). If you're not sure which account, check ALL accounts (even closed ones). 4. Exit Money. 5. Start Money 2005 with a New file and re-establish internet connectivity and let it finish the update. 6. Restart Money and open the desired file and let it convert. The steps for 2004 are similar, although you won't need to do steps 1 and 2. -Mark "Starminder" <Starminder[at]discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:0ED10E9D-6777-47AD-975E-474E48A7E528[at]microsoft.com... - quote - > I have the EXACT same problem. | I have the EXACT same problem. The only thing I have gotten to work is to create a new file and then retore from the web. Problem is, lots of information is not backed up to the web, so it's a half baked solution. Tech Support was supposed to escalate my case, haven't heard a word since (3 days now). I want my data back, I have bills to pay for crying out loud! Please count me in for a class-action lawsuit. "cybun" wrote: - quote - > I have had it!!!! This is a bunch of crap!!!! | The point is to confirm if the 2005 file maybe corrupted, by reconverting the older file. | Have you tried the following: 1. Create a New file and then let the update finish. 2. Confirm that Money 2005 did get updated to version 1105 3. Check to see if this new file works without the error. If you were using online services, you can try setting up online services for one or more of your financial institutions. 4. If that worked without problems, try reopening your original file 5. If that still fails, did you upgrade from a previous version of Money? If so find that file (for example the .m12 file if the previous version was Money 2004) copy it an rename it (eg. test.mny) and try opening it and allow 2005 to convert it and see if it behaves properly. -Mark "srazook" <srazook[at]discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:1D98396D-3AB2-4E64-B43C-C35F155601EB[at]microsoft.com... - quote - > Yes I did the exact same thing! | I agree "No Name" the only work around that I have found is to uninstall, reinstall and not allow the update to take place. Of course now I don't know if the "Update!!!!!" corrected the MSN Money Plus problems and Bill Pay problems. And "StevenFromTexas", we must think alike because alot of us Pennsylvania Dutchmen agree that it may be a time to take Microsoft to the mat. "No Name" wrote: - quote - > I've also had this problem. | I've also had this problem. One thing to note is that it seems many "long time users" are having this issue. Does it have anything to do with the amount of data in the money file? My stuff goes back to 1996. Anyway, my fiance has a file that only goes back a year and upgraded without any problem. My fake-solution was to unistall Money, and not allow the upgrade to take place. | I agree with you completely! I’ve had nothing but problems since upgrading to Money 2005. Since installing the new upgrade last week, I’m getting the same error message: “A communication error occurred. Please try your call again. If you continue to have problems call your financial institution's Online Customer Support”. And I can’t access my file. I’ve already spoken with 3 tech’s and they’re all worthless. Time to switch to Quicken! "cybun" wrote: - quote - > I have had it!!!! This is a bunch of crap!!!! | I have had it!!!! This is a bunch of crap!!!! How can we institute a class action lawsuit against Microsoft? Yesterday, November 21, 2004, MS Money 2005 automatically downloaded an ”UPDATE????” to an already unbelievably bad product. This “update” converted my .mny file and now will not let me open it. All I continue to receive is an error message, “A communication error occurred. Please try your call again. If you continue to have problems call your financial institution's Online Customer Support.” What the hell does that mean? I have been in contact with MS support since September 9, 2005 regarding numerous problems. These problems range from not being able to use Bill Pay to corrupted payee lists. I have had at least 18 unique email conversations with support people. Most responses have been in “engrish” (sic). Every time I am bumped “up” to a new support person we start all over again. This is absurd. I have put so many hours in to trying to correct my problems that I should be put on the MS payroll. Maybe if I move to India I would. If I were using an Indian version I would expect a response from an Indian representative, if I were using a German version I would expect a German representative but I use the American version and I expect an American support representative. All I get are sorry ass excuses. I am not a novice MS Money user. I have been using MS Money since version 2.0 and have never had any major problems until the release of MS Money 2005. It’s no wonder that Bill Gates receives over 4M emails a day. Most of them, I believe, are complaints about half-baked products. |
