I had the same thing happen with Money 2005 Premium. In my case though it
was related to having reinstalled the software and then attempting the
restore. Microsoft had issued an online update to the product that needed
to be downloaded and installed first. Once that completed successfully I
was able to restore successfully to/from the default location.

Rather than trying to restore to the default location, browse into
your "My Documents" folder as the place to restore to. Perhaps
select a different name for your Money file also, if that existing
name exists in that folder.

I'm having the exact same problem, but from 2004 to 2005. I was wondering if
you might have a solution to help me restore my backup file.

Thanks,

Do you get the restoration process to start, and get the error after
you are asked where to restore to?

Rather than trying to restore to the default location, browse into
your "My Documents" folder as the place to restore to. Perhaps
select a different name for your Money file also, if that existing
name exists in that folder.

Default Read only error

I'm using Money 2003 Deluxe, had some troubles with the disk, now I'm trying
to restore from a backup file.

I get a erreor message stating that money cannot locate or open the file
possibly beacuse it is read only or the disk is write protected. I've
unchecked the read only boxed of all money files and I still get the message.
Any hope of recovering anything?
