| I managed to workaround the issue in which after applying the latest Money 2005 update I get the following error and crash: "A communication error occurred. Please try your call again. If you continue to have problems call your financial institution's Online Services Customer Support". Before installing the latest Money 2005 update (if you already updated Money 2005, then uninstall it and install it fresh from the CD), completely dissasociate and/or turn off any account in your money file which uses bill paying services, in my case it was MSN Bill Pay. There might be some accounts which are "closed" and might not appear in the account lists, also MSN Bill Pay created a "Checking" account which did not appear in the account list. Either completely delete the account (Note you will loose all your account data if you delete an account) or change it to use another financial institution not linked to an online service. Then let Money 2005 update itself to the latest patch and re-enable the online services. You might need to do this on your backed up money file, since the newer file might been corrupted. I scheduled a weekly backup of my money file to another hard disk on my system. This proved to be helpful in this case. I strongly encourage you backup your money files (copy them to another folder) before attempting anything. Hope this proves helpful to anyone stumbling into this issue. - josé "Jose Oliver" <jose_oliver[at]hotmail.com> wrote in message news:46AEFE55-E665-43BD-AD05-F6C11995F773[at]microsoft.com... - quote - > There is a tool within the money application folder in Program Files, > which > might repair corrupted money files. | There is a tool within the money application folder in Program Files, which might repair corrupted money files. It is salv.exe. Have your tried this? Have you been using that money file for a while? Say, updated it from previous versions? - josé "Starminder" wrote: - quote - > My bad, I finally did figure that part out. | Hi Mark All I can say is "OF COURSE" (and no, it didn't work). Unfortunately I think those of us who are stuck in this little perpetual loop need them to actually fix the software. | My bad, I finally did figure that part out. After it downloads all the pieces and parts and you log in, then it goes from being a trial version to a full version. | I am encountering the same issue, After installing the update and restarting Money 2005 I recieve the following error message dialog after signing in, "A communication error occurred. Please try your call again. If you continue to have problems call your financial institution's Online Services Customer Support". Upon clicking the [Ok] button on the dialog, there a "Converting file..." dialog with progress bar is displayed, but a crash occurs immidiately and I get the Microsoft Money Error Reporting window. Money 2005 was working just fine before installing the update. - josé "Starminder" <Starminder[at]discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:A495FCB6-0E48-486F-B43D-4B401BB86279[at]microsoft.com... - quote - > OK, I called in the problem. | OK, I called in the problem. Tech Support walked me through all the steps I did on my own yesterday, including: Reinstalling the software Opening the file (crash) Restoring from a backup (crash) Creating a new blank file (I want my data, but thanks) End result - no solution. What I want to know is: Is Microsoft going to start paying my bills for me now since I can't? Is Microsoft going to do my tax return now since I can't? Is Microsoft going to take care of my FSA reimbursement now this information is gone? This is ridiculous. Please fire the PM in charge of Money for such a boneheaded decision as to push an undocumented update. Also, why is it no one is answering the pleas for help regarding this problem in the newsgroup? | I purchased Money Premium over the web, but I just noticed on Help/About it says it is a trial edition...hmmm... Anyways, the latest update did not work for me ("Communication Error"). I uninstalled/reinstalled the software and then restored a backup file. It worked fine yesterday, but apparently redownloaded the latest "fix" again (without asking me, thanks) so I am right back in the very same boat again and cannot use the software. I'm currently on terminal hold with product support, I'll repost if there is a solution. |
