Just say "no" when Money asks you to set up roaming. Then an update will be
the same in 05 as in 04.

You can directly access your bank without a bank web site and without Yodlee
if your bank supports it, as you currently do in '04.

That was my experience for the short time I was using '05 (before update).

Wait. Can you avoid Yodlee in 2005? That is, you can d/l the same as you
do in 2004? How? Directly access the Bank and downloading via the Money
2000/Active Statement link?

You're right, Dick - if you avoid Yodlee, downloads are pretty much the same
in 04 and 05.

I **think** the answer is that if you connect directly and continue to do
so--i.e., no Yodlee middleman--then it wont create the duplicate account and
download all other accounts form the same FI and so forth. But don't take my
word for it. I don't download transaction data and did not permanently shift
my data file to M05.

Dick, if I install and convert my existing files, some of which were
downloaded transaction from Money 04, and then resume downloading future
transaction will my files be messed up? For example my Schwab account
has been downloaded daily. I install and convert, then I download new
Schwab transactions---should this work correctly. Thanks

Just in case that $40 is burning a hole in your pocket, let me give you some
more specifics:

M04 can do this. All M05 adds is some easier ways to allow others the same
access without having to share your Passport to do so.

Neither, unless you use the Essential Reports which, we are told, "most
people prefer," in which case they are significantly less capable and
flexible.

- quote -

> Will my current accounts be easily and correctly converted?

Unless you try to download data, this should be pretty seamless. If you
download data and Yodlee gets in the loop, chaos will likely result with
duplicate accounts and potentially more acocunts than you wanted to manage
and so on. Oh, and "Essential Account Registers" which, again, we are told
"most people prefer." If you've used Food:Groceries and Foodining Out,
these will morph to Groceries and Dining Out as top level categories. As
could be expected, "most people prefer" this. You will have to undo it if
you don't want it this way.

- quote -

> Can the ads be turned off?

Much less so than in M04 and they are harder to avoid as well. Maybe most
people prefer this too, but it's a claim they haven't made, yet.

- quote -

> Will my budget convert?

Yes, though it likely will whine about it not being an "Essential Budget"
which, again, we are told "most people prefer."

- quote -

> Can I continue to back up to my flash drives?

Yes, unless you do not have at least one full file's worth of free space on
the drive after the backup. Oh, and it will litter temporary files. Who
knows whether most users preferred this.

- quote -

> Are the improvements worth the $40.

You be the judge.

Nothing in this update changes the fundamental conclusions I expressed at
http://umpmfaq.info/Money2005.htm. It is nice they put Dual Category Lists
back. It's not fundamental.

Default To upgrade or not after the fix?

I have Premium 04 and have been reasonably happy with it. I do not use
MSN bill pay and won't since I get bill pay free from Schwab. I have no
pressing need to view my account away from home but it could be nice at
times. A large portion of my transaction are investment related--stock
and option buy/sells, dividends, interest and so on. My local Bank is
not on the list of Banks supported in 05.
Are the investment reports greatly improved or just reformatted?
Will my current accounts be easily and correctly converted?
Can the ads be turned off?
Will my budget convert?
Can I continue to back up to my flash drives?
Are the improvements worth the $40.

TIA
