| Sorry, I was on the phone with MS support. I think I need to step back and look at what they did. They had me go into {portfolio Mgr}{Work with Investments} and {Delete Investment} to remove the MF that was supposed to be a stock etc. In the end they told me someone would call me back in 72 hours. I don't think they helped much, but I lost my internet connection last night so I will re-group and start a new Later thread this morning. Thanks for all your help, I think I'm much closer, but still not there yet!! The problem this cures is that Money associates downloaded fund by CUSIP. Renaming and/or changing the symbol is not sufficient to appear as a different security. Create dis_mf.ofx by cutting and pasting the portions between the Begin and End lines (below) into a file named dis_mf.ofx. I suggest making an extra copy of your Money file as a precaution. File-> Import dis_mf.ofx Select the appropriate Account from the list. Select the institution as the actual institution that holds the account. You should get the "You have n statements to read" screen. The account you just imported into should show the name account name followed by (1). Click that name. You should get the pop-up that says "Money found the following investment in your brokerage statement:". Select "This investment is already in my investment portfolio with a different name. I use the following investment in my investment portfolio to track this investment:". From the drop-down list, choose the mutual fund you are trying to get rid of. Click Next. When you get the "Are you sure xxxxx is the same investment as yyyy?", click Yes. If you get the screen that says "Do you want to change the ticker symbol for xxxx in Money from yyyy to zzzz to match the statement, click Yes. Get the screen that says "The positions reported on nn/nn/nn statement don't match those in you Money account. Do you want to update your account to match the statement?". I would select No, but it is up to you. Click Finish. Now download from your broker for real. That is a problem then. You want to say that the new fake oddball> fidelity Growth? Currently called a stock incorrectly. stock is the one you want to do away with. If that is not offered as a choice, I don't know what that could indicate. I think you are saying that Money thinks TPBJ is a stock rather than a fund. Is that the way it is? If not, then that would change the solution. So right now, Money thinks TPBJ is a ______________ and Money thinks FDGRX is a _________________ |

If you do QIF export and import, only the symbol of investments> all accounts, investment, checking etc. Then create a new file and import > only accounts that I know are good. Then if I set up a new investment > account for fidelity and download from Broker, will this incorrect mapping > disappear? comes over. QIF import would be one way to get things going, but I would not give up on the other yet. If you do decide to try QIF, there are some tips. But first, I had made some assumptions in the description I gave you before. Were those accurate? Is your problem that there is a still a stock with name FDGRX? If so, rename it to zzzz3 and blank its symbol. Is there a fund defined that should have symbol FDGRX? Make its symbol be FDGRX and make its name be Fidelity Growth. Then go thru all transaction of zzzz3 and change them to transactions of Fidelity Growth. But, yes. you could do the export+Import. The slightly tricky point will be to make transactions under both names refer to the same fund. So ready for those QIF tips, or do you want to try some more with the existing file? - quote - > "Cal Learner-- MVP" <via_newsgroup[at]please.tnx> wrote in message > news:860qp09n4vofs5o02rlqcupd3ds145do01[at]4ax.com... > > In microsoft.public.money, SMERTZ wrote: > > > > > > Basically I had to hit OK 387 times to accept the transactions, I tried to > > > read every one, but I admit I hit enter too quickly a few times, OK more > > > than a few times!! > > > One thing that I find useful for accepting transactions is Alt+P. | I think I am in over my head with this money file. I'm not sure if I screwed it up or if it was that way in Quicken, but I must take the blame to stay married. OK. Here is what I think may be the solution, if I understand correctly. FDRDX is what you call a fund holding, and currently in the details it does not show a symbol. TPBJ is defined as a stock, it is an old artifact, and it has symbol FDRDX. If you are doing direct download from Fidelity using OFX type access, there is an solution that will seem strange. Keep a copy of your file in case you don't like the result. First, let's get the ID (CUSIP) and symbol for the real FDRDX to not be associated with TPBJ. The purpose of this is disassociate a security from the download process. The problem this cures is that Money associates OFX downloaded stock by CUSIP. Renaming and/or changing the symbol is not sufficient to appear as a different security. Create dis_sk.ofx by cutting and pasting the portions between the Begin and End lines (below) into a file named dis_sk.ofx. I suggest making an extra copy of your Money file as a precaution. File-> Import dis_sk.ofx into Money Select the appropriate Account from the list. Select the institution as the actual institution that holds the account (Fidelity I think). From the drop-down list, choose the stock you are trying to get rid of. Click Next. When you get the "Are you sure xxxxx is the same investment as yyyy?", click Yes. If you get the screen that says "Do you want to change the ticker symbol for xxxx in Money from FDRDX to zzz2 to match the statement, click Yes. Get the screen that says "The positions reported on nn/nn/nn statement don't match those in you Money account. Do you want to update your account to match the statement?". I would select No, but it is up to you. Click Finish. Now download from your broker for real. When the actual position comes in, Money should ask if that exists in your file under another name. Say that it matches the actual fund you want it to match. Also change the symbol of FDRDX to FDRDX. Feel free to suggest improvements to this procedure. ========================Begin:dis_sk.ofx========== ============== OFXHEADER:100 DATA:OFXSGML OLDFILEUID:NONE NEWFILEUID:NONE CHARSET:1252 VERSION:102 COMPRESSION:NONE ENCODING:USASCII SECURITY:NONE <OFX<SIGNONMSGSRSV1 <SONRS<STATUS<CODE> 0 <SEVERITY> INFO <MESSAGE> SUCCESS </STATUS<DTSERVER> 20040302 <LANGUAGE> ENG <DTPROFUP> 20030403 <DTACCTUP> 20040201 </SONRS> </SIGNONMSGSRSV1<INVSTMTMSGSRSV1 <INVSTMTTRNRS<TRNUID> ZzzzA1 <STATUS<CODE> 0 <SEVERITY> INFO <MESSAGE> Success so far with stock modification of symbol and CUSIP </STATUS <INVSTMTRS<DTASOF> 20040221 <CURDEF> USD <INVACCTFROM<BROKERID> YourBrokerOrZzzzA2 <ACCTID> YourAccountOrZzzzA3 </INVACCTFROM <INVTRANLIST<DTSTART> 20040904000000.000[-5:EST] <DTEND> 20041102194040.000[-5:EST] <INCOME<INVTRAN<FITID> 2004093000000000000-182271229 <DTTRADE> 20040930120000.000[-5:EST] </INVTRAN<SECID<UNIQUEID> 377zzz105 <UNIQUEIDTYPE> CUSIP </SECID<INCOMETYPE> DIV <TOTAL> 18.30 <SUBACCTSEC> CASH <SUBACCTFUND> CASH </INCOME </INVTRANLIST <INVPOSLIST <POSSTOCK<INVPOS<SECID<UNIQUEID> 0zzz12345 <UNIQUEIDTYPE> CUSIP </SECID<HELDINACCT> CASH <POSTYPE> LONG <UNITS> 50.0000 <UNITPRICE> 42.840 <MKTVAL> 2142.000 <DTPRICEASOF> 20041102000000.000[-5:EST] </INVPOS</POSSTOCK </INVPOSLIST </INVSTMTRS</INVSTMTTRNRS</INVSTMTMSGSRSV1 <SECLISTMSGSRSV1<SECLIST <STOCKINFO<SECINFO<SECID<UNIQUEID> 0zzz12345 <UNIQUEIDTYPE> CUSIP </SECID<SECNAME> zzzz FAKE STOCK zzzz <TICKER> zzz2 </SECINFO</STOCKINFO </SECLIST</SECLISTMSGSRSV1</OFX ======================END:dis_sk.ofx ======================== |

| This is very complicated. My wife was doing these accounts in Quicken for years, I moved them to Money 2004 a trial copy, then I purchased Money 2005 and am now in charge of the accounts. I believe this is my fault as the first time I looked at the statement it had something on the order of 387 transactions to read. I assume it has been downloading in Quicken for a while and nobody was looking at it. Basically I had to hit OK 387 times to accept the transactions, I tried to read every one, but I admit I hit enter too quickly a few times, OK more than a few times!! I have restored a backup and it has the 387 transactions to read, so no luck there Currently FDGRX is listed as a Stock in Money. I don't know if that happened in the Quicken conversion or if my wife entered it that way. I believe that TPBJ was entered in Quicken, and it too has the Initials FDGRX So I am at a loss. I was very willing to start from today with this account, so I backed it up then deleted it and re-created it, but FDGRX still listed incorrectly as a stock., and when I download transactions from Fidelity it try to add 1100 TPBJ Which is NOT coming from Fidelity, I checked on the website it has no such fund, stock etc. It has to be getting that from Money!! I hope this helps!! - quote - > In microsoft.public.money, SMERTZ wrote: > > I am now getting automatic updates from my Investment account, when I > > click > > on the downloaded information "Positions" Money is trying to add 1100 > > shares > > of something called "Money Fund (TPBJ)" to my investment account. If I understand this correctly, you have transactions for a security called "FDGRX" with symbol FDGRX. That would be the FIDELITY GROWTH mutual fund (which is not a Money Market fund) Is there no indication for a holding of that in your Investment Holdings position data when you click "Transactions to read" on your account list after update? There is a complex process. So lets try to understand the situation better before getting into a solution. Have you been downloading long, and, if not, do you have a recent backup that pre-dates your downloading? Before changing things, I wonder if you happen to have $1100 of cash or swept money market funds. I find no reference to TPBJ with Fidelity, so I wonder where that is coming from. |

| I am now getting automatic updates from my Investment account, when I click on the downloaded information "Positions" Money is trying to add 1100 shares of something called "Money Fund (TPBJ)" to my investment account. Funny thing is I have exactually 1100 shares of FDGRX. So I am thinking somehow this FDGRX got mapped to this "Money Fund (TPBJ)" How can I change this mapping in Money so it stops trying to add 1100 shares of something I don't have? Can I also delete this investment called "Money Fund (TPBJ)" from some list in Money? I also think FDGRX is mis-classified as a stock instead of a market fund, how do I change this? Thanks Money 2005 Premium |
