The account is a container that contains transactions. Transactions include a Buy of an Investment. So, if I have this right, type the name of the fund into the Investment box. Money will ask you information about this investment. Many fund companies set things up so that you have a single account that contains Buys, Sells, etc for more than one investment. That is how I would prefer it. If I download transactions, however, I will follow the method that the fund company uses. So if there is separate account for each fund, I would follow that. If I were going to enter transactions manually, I would create a single account for the fund company, and enter transactions for the various funds in that same account. Many, perhaps most, fund companies do that. Vanguard switched to that method. But the multi-account method works well too. You just have to set up an investment as well as the account. I don't know if the names can be identical, but certainly you could have an account named XYZ Funds and an investment named XYZ Fund. - quote - > 6) Even adding an entry to the Cash Transactions seciton of the new account
At first I thought you were running across a limit in the number of> does not affect 5) > 7) There are 11 existing funds in the list shown to the user in 5). All but > the newly created account are available for selection. > Hope this helps, thanks. Favorite accounts, but your description has made it clear that that is not the issue. I have appended a little glossary that I had made: ================================ Basic Money Glossary (prototype) Account A collective place to place transactions. An investment account would normally hold stocks, bonds, and/or mutual funds. There are also bank, credit, and asset accounts. Money Help item "account" gives a description. Category The Money help item "category" says "A way to sort your income and expenses into meaningful groups so you can see income and spending patterns in Money reports." That seems like a good description. Favorite Account An attribute of an account to give it easier access. See help item "favorite". Investment A security such as stock, bond, or mutual fund. See Help item "investment". Investment Buys and Sells are entered into an investment (type) account, but an account is not an investment. Normally when your broker assigns different account numbers, each account number would correspond to an account. Each account can contain many different types of investments. Money File The file that normally has the extension .mny. It contains the data for money as well as most of the settings. It can be moved, deleted, or copied by normal operating system means. See Help item "file". The Money file can be backed up to a Money backup file with a .mbf extension. Give careful thought to your backup policy. Watch Account An account that is not real, but is for the purpose of watching securities that you may not actually own. See help item "watch". ============================================== |

You go to the account list, and you click the problem account. That> > > try to add a transaction to it, the drop-down list of investment accounts > > > does not include the new one. gets you into the account register. You try to enter a transaction. *What* drop-down list does not include a new *what*? Account, or Investment. Or are you referring to the little down-arrow that shows on the account list page that lets you select accounts? - quote - > > > Yet everywhere else in Money (account list, > > > etc) the new account does appear. Yet everywhere else in Money (account list, > etc) the new account does appear. What gives? Any ideas? transactions). You may then have the sorting of the account list to not show watch accounts. |

| I'm using Money 2001 and I've created a new investment account. Yet when I try to add a transaction to it, the drop-down list of investment accounts does not include the new one. Yet everywhere else in Money (account list, etc) the new account does appear. What gives? Any ideas? Thanks |
