| Dick is correct. You need to set your paycheck up to "transfer in" the amount of your paycheck 401k contribution. On your payday, Money will throw that portion of your check into the 401(k)'s "Contributions" portion. Once you download or manually update your account to "buy" from the "contributions" account, your 401 will be balanced and your contribuitions account will sit at zero until your next paycheck. It was confusing for me at first, too. It took a lot of patience to get this set-up when I did it a year ago. I'm not sure I understand your comment "there's nothing 'going out' of> > register in Money shows > > the Transfer: > --> It shows the 401K deduction in my paycheck details, but > there's nothing "going out" of my checking account. The > total of my deposit from my paycheck into my checking > account includes the deduction for the 401K transfer > though. [your] checking account". If your checking account had $100 in it and then there's a transaction in the amount of $50 that's a paycheck split which has $100 on the wages tab and $50 on the before tax tab as Transfer:[401k cash account], and then the checking balance is $150, that's all you are going to see on the checking account side of things. The effect of the Transfer in the paycheck split is that the money transferred never really was in your chacking account. All that's in the checking account is the transaction that accounts for it in the form of the split element. - quote - > > and the 401k cash account does not show the other half of

Is the register view set to show **all transactions** for **all dates**? Have you recently tried running the 401k update wizard or just done an "account update" in that account? I forget, have you entered these things before and they've worked and just this one isn't working or are you just getting this all setup for the first time? Where'd the begining balance come from? Very good. That eliminates a huge number of possibilities for strange things> --> No to happen. - quote - > > Is the scheduled paycheck transaction still setup the way
I wouldn't do anything rash just yet.> you want these to enter going forward? > --> Yes, but I'll have to go in and edit the details, since > each week my paycheck varies a little, and therefore > affects my 401K transfer. > Maybe I just need to delete this and all future occurences > of my paycheck and start over. The first possibility is that the transfer isn't going where you think it is. This could be because of similar account names or who knows what. One way to find this, potentially, is to go do a Tools|Find in all accounts for the date of the paycheck and the amount of the transfer. I *think* (don't have a machine handy to try a testcase) this should find both halves of the transfer. Another possibility is some manner of file corruption. In particular, there are corruptions that manifest themselves with transactions being in the database and just not being visible for some reason. If all of the above didn't resolve anything, I'd consider just entering another copy of the transaction--maybe forcing myself to retype the whole thing just to eliminate the possibility that the scheduled item is somehow munged or the "autocompleted" copy is somehow not what I thought it was--and see if that work. If it does, I'd delete the other transaction. |

there's nothing "going out" of my checking account. --> Yes, but I'll have to go in and edit the details, sinceyou want these to enter going forward? each week my paycheck varies a little, and therefore affects my 401K transfer. Maybe I just need to delete this and all future occurences of my paycheck and start over. I have to admit, sometimes I get confused between adding a deposit manually and setting one up in the recurring section. Somtimes (with bills, too) I end up with duplicate transactions in the same month. Thank you for your help. It is really appreciated. | And the paycheck transaction entered in an account register in Money shows the Transfer and the 401k cash account does not show the other half of the same transfer in its register? Are downloaded transactions involved here? Is the scheduled paycheck transaction still setup the way you want these to enter going forward? | I set up a 401K account in Money 2003. I then set up my paycheck to transfer my weekly contribution to that account. Today's paycheck was deposited into checking, but the transfer didn't go into the 401K. The other transfers in my paycheck (to other savings accts) did get deposited though. Did I miss a step? |
