MAYBE there is something fishy about the Money Trial version. I can understand how you would hesitate to put down real money for the CD version, after your bad experience. But you can return the CD for a refund, you know. My biggest problem with the conversion is that many of my old Quicken transactions got converted with blank categories. There is a solution for this problem, at least. You just merge the> time. But now I cannot get accounts activated to work online. I did this for all of my online accounts, and it worked well each time. -- David Arnstein arnstein+usenet[at]pobox.com |

| Ok, last year I thought I would finally be rid of Quicken and couldn't do the conversion then. Now I've got the Money 2005 trial, and I'm trying to convert my Quicken 2004 data... First I tried the normal conversion, with the usual "unable to convert your quicken file, try validating" message. Validating did nothing to help. Then I tried deleting a bunch of older accounts, investment accounts, and anything else that seemed iffy. Validated again, tried to convert, no luck. In fact, the file size didn't really even change much on the quicken file. So I decided it would be easier to use qifs, so I made one for each account (about 40 accounts), and imported them all simultaneously. After going through a lot of dialogue boxes to assign old accounts to new, and to tell it where to put transactions, I ended up with a mess. Some balances were ok, others were way off. So then I decided I'd break with the past, and just set money up as if I didn't have Quicken. I set up my accounts, and got them updated online. A typical checking transaction looks like "W/D 18364816734 $50". Not exactly useful. So, back to importing the accounts - for some reason, it works better this time. But now I cannot get accounts activated to work online. If I try to change the settings on an account to use a financial institution, and then set up the online services for that institution, I get ANOTHER account. I figure I've got to get the account data from Quicken in somehow, and then set up the online part (which I am not using in Quicken for several reasons) and use that to get things updated. But this isn't working. I don't want to stick with quicken. I really want to switch to Money. But this is driving me nuts. Anyone have any advice to offer? |
