It sounds like you are looking for what Quicken calls subaccounts. Money
doesn't have such a thing. See http://umpmfaq.info/faqdb.php?q=113 for some
insight.

Thanks Dick,

Here's what I am trying to do:
I need to transfer a sum of money (say $2000/month) from my checking account
to my MM account.

I need to be able to categorize that $2000 thusly: $1500 "for purpose X" and
$500 "for purpose Y."

I think that I need to do it as a transfer, but is there anyway I can
ear-mark parts of the sum (to assist in reporting later)?

Thanks,
Tom

Transfer and Categories are mutually exclusive. A Transfer is a "Special
Category" (Money's term, not mine) but Categories reflect either Expense
(e.g., Food:Groceries) or Income (e.g., Wages & Salary:Bonus).

Could you describe your object rather than the method you want and maybe
somebody will have a way for you to get there?

Default transfer and split?

I am trying to a) transfer money from one account to another (from checking
to money market), and b) split the transferred sum into 2 or more
categories. Is that possible?
