Yes. Anywhere is acceptable. You might want to set up a temporary
location.

Yes.

I don't know what it would mean to include a category list. Some
Quicken-literate person may have information on this.

1. In executing the steps to setting up Quicken "QIF file to export to",
where should the export file go (not C:\Program Files\Quicken)? I assume
any location is ok as long as it is noted for import into Money.
2. "Quicken Account to Export from": click on one account at a time or
choose (All Accounts)? I assume one account at a time to initially create
separate QIF files.
3. "Include in Export" : with Transactions, should I select Account list
and Category list ?

I really appreciate your suggestion. I was not aware of a potential problem
with the Money 2005 import of Quicken 2004 data option.

Thanks.

The Money 2005 version importing Quicken 2004 data will be much
more complete than QIF. However with QIF import, you will have a
really clean file.

There are some things to watch for with QIF import. Make Quicken
make a separate QIF for each account.

To avoid transfers from turning into two separate transactions, it
is important to import the QIFs into the new file all at once.
This is done by selecting using Ctrl+<click> to highlight all of
the files you want included. Further, before doing the import,
the QIF files containing the investment cash accounts
should be named something alphanumerically higher than the
investment transactions of the account. So you could have
"Merrill" and "Merrill Cash", but you would not want "Merrill Inv"
and "Merrill Cash". "_Merrill Inv" and "Merrill Cash" would be
good. So one way around this is to export investment accounts to
files who's name starts with an underscore.

Thanks for your input! I will try the Money 2004 "Standard" (or "Deluxe")
import of Q2004 "Basic" data when ready. However, I previously understood
the Money 2005 version had to be used for importing Quicken 2004 data.

If Q2004 can do QIF export, Money 2004 can do QIF import.

Thanks for your comments. I get the feeling the Home Inventory feature is
very basic.
I do not use the online features so doubt that I will run into all the
problems encountered by others. If I decide to purchase Money 2005, I will
import my Quicken 2004 records so I can use one financial program. It is
too bad Q2004 data cannot be imported into the Money 2004 version I now have
available.

Thanks again.

1. Yes you can install Money 2005 on this machine. You can even leave
Money 2004 by installing in a second directory
2. You can import Quicken 2004 into Money 2005. You can not import it
into Money 2004.

If you do not set up online services that require a passport, you will
not see very much of a difference from Money 2004. Most of the
complaints with Money 2005 come from the online services using Yodlee.
These seem to be getting better, but I still would not use them until
they are fixed. I however are using Money 2005 in local mode only with
no problems and some enhancements over what was available in 2004.

Please read the posts in this group before installing Money 2005.
There are quite a few issues about 2005 that have made me decide not to
use 2005 but continue with 2004 Premium.

Default Money 2005 Deluxe vs 2004 Std

I currently have MS Works Suite 2004 pre-installed on my computer. Money
2004 Standard is a part of that suite. I have been using Quicken 2004 over
the entire past year for my financial records. In order to make a
transition to Money and retain Quicken records for the past year I would
need to purchase Money 2005 and import Quicken 2004 records first.

1. Can I install Money 2005 on the machine that currently contains Works
Suite 2004 (with Money 2004)? If so, I assume I would need to uninstall
Money 2004 before installing Money 2005.

2. Is there any known problem with importing Quicken 2004 records into
Money 2005?

Thank you for any comments.
