Here's how. When I installed XP OS back on my computer, the sound card had quit working. I was more focussed on getting money to work so ignored it. Well I went to tools-> configuration and unchecked Play Sounds option and tested my installation. MsMoney worked without a problem. Still unclear as to why a bad soundcard would affect ms money operation. Atleast a message box to this effect would have been helpful. Anyway hope this helps any future or current victims of this. | Hi Steve, I recently reinstalled my MS Money 2003 after losing my harddrive. I have been using this version for so many years on this computer without any problems. I have the same symptoms as many others have discussed. System locks up after entering a transaction - only way out is task manager kill. Could you please send the exact sequence to fix this problem. Thanks Moneyuser Moneyuser since 1998 "Steve" wrote: - quote - > Thank you for this information I will be sure to pass this on to people. > Another reason the bills summary and reports can lock up is if the bill was > removed from the bill summary but stayed in bill calander screen if you ever > have problems with "rogue" bills showing on your home page and on some > reports without them being in the summary chances are there in the calander. > Steve > "mgoody" <mgoody[at]discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message > news:52C8D343-FA57-46D4-BE6E-7295047236CE[at]microsoft.com... > > Hi > > I'm running Money 2005 Standard having upgraded from an earlier version > > after a hard drive crash a few months ago, I had no problems until the > > other > > day. | Cheers Steve, It's all starting to make sense now - what a pity the File Repair function doesn't pick this up. | Hi I'm running Money 2005 Standard having upgraded from an earlier version after a hard drive crash a few months ago, I had no problems until the other day. The operating system is XP Pro SP2. My Money problem occurred when I attempted to use the Bills & Deposits module - each time I tried to record a transaction the system would lock up. Having read the earlier posts here and tried all the suggested remedies (Restoring XP to an earlier date, resetting the system date, uninstalling & reinstalling Money etc. etc.; I also found similar difficulties with reports to those posted here.) I was beginning to despair. Then I got lucky, while perusing the Bills Summary page I noticed an entry for a no longer used payee, there were no Next Due, Account, Frequency etc. entries against it and I have no idea how it came to be there. Anyway, long story short, I deleted it (with fingers crossed) and the problem appears to have been completely resolved. So, if anyone suffers the lock up problem, take a hard look at the Bills Summary for rogue entries. I hope this is of help to any future victims. Mike G |

| Thank you for this information I will be sure to pass this on to people. Another reason the bills summary and reports can lock up is if the bill was removed from the bill summary but stayed in bill calander screen if you ever have problems with "rogue" bills showing on your home page and on some reports without them being in the summary chances are there in the calander. | I am running Money 2005 deluxe. The file I am using was created with Money 99, upgrade to Money 2002 and then upgraded to Money 2005. The program locks up constantly. When I checked the payee file, each payee had been replicated 12 times. Is there a quick way to eliminate these erroneus entries?? Is the problem Money 2005 and would my problems go away upgrading to 2006. In the meantime, I have reviewed this thread and will be trying some of the suggestions. Thanks in advance. | Hi Cal Learner, I reinstalled Money in a different directory, and I can now open the sample.mny. However, I still have the same problems when I open the Money 2005. I am able to log on, the page loads, and then Money freezes. Task Manager shows two files not responding: My Money-Microsoft Money (with the logo), and My Money-Microsoft Money (with out the logo). I was running Money 2003 Deluxe and Business, and upgraded to Money 2005 Small Business. Any suggestions? Copy it onto a USB flash drive perhaps. Just in case. Uninstall Money. Then reinstall Money into a *different* folder. You can specify where to reinstall to, such as "C:\Program Files\Money2004". Let Money create a new empty file if it wants. Do an internet update of Money. Then File-> Open your real file. |

| I just started having the same problem. Money 2005 was working fine, and now I am having the same problem as mattmtv. I have uninstalled and reinstalled 2005--2x. I have also tried to open 2005 by way of accessing the sample.mny file--same thing; the program opens and then my cpu skyrockets and money stops responding. I have opened the task manager, and two files are running: the money 2005, and money exe file. I had recently added a Pocket PC with activesync that had money 2004 pocket on it. I uninstalled 2004 from both and reinstalled 2005==same thing. If that works, suspect a problem with your Money file rather than the installation. Read about salv.exe. If that does not work, try uninstalling and then reinstalling into a different folder. |
