| I use MSN-nothing and love Money 2005. I had a few initial problems with downloading from some of those you listed, but after deleting all of the sync usernames/passwords and setting it up again, I have had zero problems. Runs just fine. | Upgrading changed some of my investment cash account deposits to negative deposits. (They remained categorized as deposits, but were negative numbers.) Same thing happened last year despite running salvage twice before doing the conversion. Other than that, it wasn't a big deal. The errors were easy to identify (sort by amount) but shouldn't have happened. I customarily upgrade when the new version is available. I find no particular reason to upgrade from '04 to '05 and will not do so this year. I do not want my entire file posted on MSN servers, nor do I want to be dependent on MSN-based passport, for the sake of getting online updates to one or two accounts with minimal activity, anyway. In the past few years an online tax return has been included in the price of Money Deluxe. Not so this year - you have to buy Money Premium. I don't need it and will spend the extra cost on buying Tax outright. (I can't see how MS gave away the free tax return without suffering a loss. Somebody in marketing got realistic.) If you do upgrade, don't let money delete your old version until you're happy. Also, export a net worth statement from '04 to Excel and do the same from '05 after upgrade. Use Excel to compare '04 account balances to '05 to confirm accurate conversion. Also, create a backup before conversion and confirm that you can restore that backup. Rename it so an '05 backup doesn't accidentally overwrite it. -- Chris Cowles, Gainesville, FL "Aloke Prasad" <aprasad123[at]columbus.rr.invalid> wrote in message news:uTp2FC7sEHA.1272[at]TK2MSFTNGP12.phx.gbl... - quote - > I use M2004 with on-line access to Fidelity Investments, Bank One (Ohio), > CitiCards, ATT Universal Card. | Also be aware (in view of the other comments) that it's working very well for some of us - I being one. Hopefully the problems others are have will be resolved soon. | Aloke, I upgraded to the latest version for that very reason - always have to have the latest. I have most everything working OK on my local machine, except that my Vanguard download is interpreted wrong. I had to make a dozen or more corrections after my 2004 file was converted. The balances I see on the Web tend to be wrong, albeit mainly in the cash positions. On the plus side, some securities that Money 2004 could never find are now being updated correctly. I should say I was seeing some minor problems with Money 2004 as well, like occasionally losing transactions. My advice would be to wait. I suspect MS is working on the problems and will give you a better experience a few months down the road. | Besides mangling Food:Groceries and ining Out, it seemed to upgrade OK.But there are LOTS of reasons I found to not like M05 and few reasons I found to like it. My advice and comments are at http://umpmfaq.info/Money2005.htm. | I use M2004 with on-line access to Fidelity Investments, Bank One (Ohio), CitiCards, ATT Universal Card. It doesn't do a few institutions like ING Direct, Thrift Savings Plan (Federal Govt), Ohio Deferred Comp, but I'm used to it and update the info when I get the quarterly statements. I don't use Passport for background updates. Question: Has M2005 messed up (duplicate entries, duplicate accounts, wrong balances etc) the Money file for someone like me, who does not use MSN Money sync, Passport, or MSN BillPay? I am torn between upgrading (just to get the latest version .. I have to have the latest of everything :-) and all the horror stories here. I don't mind upgrading even if I get no added benefit. However, I DON"T want to spend any time repairing a perfectly fine setup (M2004). -- Aloke ---- to reply by e-mail remove 123 and change invalid to com |
