I have english based MSM 2003. How do I know which version of MSM 2005 should
I buy so it can open my 2003 files?

I upgraded and am very sorry. This thing is an uncontrollable pig. Even
though I have all auto updates turned off, each time I start it, it tries to
start up my dialer(I'm still on dial-up) and I have to kill it. This is a
real pain. 2003 did NOT do this.

Mike--

I tried the Money 2005 trial and decided to keep 2003. I didn't have any of
the problems others here are having--except Money wanting to be online all
of the time. I don't do direct downloads, but I do download statements from
my bank "manually" and then import them into Money. The only reason Money
needs to connect for me is to get online quotes.

The main reason I didn't upgrade to 2005 was that it didn't do anything for
me that Money 2003 doesn't do. It just takes up more screen real estate
(larger icons, etc) and makes it very hard to tell when it's accessing
something online (I'm a lot more comfortable when I can tell when my
programs are going online!) I think Dick Watson also pointed out that help
is only available online (what's up with that?!)

You can download a trial version from Microsoft and try it out before making
a decision to buy or not to buy.

Art--when you "upgraded" to 2005, Money should have made a backup copy of
your data, giving it the extension .m11 (for example mymoney.m11) You
should be able to rename this copy and then open it with 2003. Of course
all the transactions you've entered since converting to 2005 will need to be
re-entered.

Hope this helps--

Can you give me an idea of the type of problems you're having? I'm
conflicted over whether I should upgrade or wait until MM2006.

Thanks

Art,

Since upgrading to MM2005 do you have any regrets? Knowing then what
you know now, would you have upgraded?

It didn't corrupt anything. It made a copy of your existing file, saved it
as <filename> .m11, then converted it to the new file version. All you have
to do is rename the current version <filename> .m14, then rename the older
one back to <filename> .mny and open from Money2003. If you allowed 2005 to
remove 2003, you'll have to reinstall it.

When you converted, a copy of your *.mny file was left as *.m12. To go back
to M2003 you rename the *.m12 file as *.mny and open that with M2003.

Yeah I "successfully upgraded it, and I regret it. I was perfectly happy
with my Money 2003 but decided to take a look at the trial version of 2005.
I didn't like it, but I can't go back because it corrupted my money files.
2003 will no longer work with the files. So I bought 2005 and now have been
faced with problem after problem.
