First, take a look at

http://umpmfaq.info/faq.html#Q14

That is not quite what you are looking for, but it is worth a look.

There is more than one way to handle a 401K. The negative
contributions are probably due to a Money "wizard" that takes a
simplified approach of adjusting the value of the 401K to account
for the current value. That is may be OK for simplicity. If you have
more information, there can be better ways. What information do you
have other than current value? Are you looking for a way that
documents things better, or are you looking for something more
simple?

I hesitate to suggest you look thru these old postings, but I will
do so anyway:
http://groups.google.com/groups?as_q...04&safe=images

There may be something there that strikes your eye. There are those
with some good ideas on how to handle a 401K. There is more than one
good way. Various threads may give you some insight. Then post what
information you have available, and how detailed you want to get.

Default Portfolio in M05 question.

OK, I don't make a ton of money. At this point I can barely afford to
contribute anything to my 401k. But I have a problem that I can't
seem to figure out. I figure it is my inexperience with looking at
portfolio information.

When I log into the company website for my 401k it shows my account
balance as total market value. Yet money shows a total market value
less than my bank does. It also shows negative contributions. If you
add those 2 together then you get the total balance and that matches
the total market value that my bank gives me. So since in the account
list money is showing the market value it is calculating instead of
what my bank says, I don't get a true picture of what is happening
with that.

The money help file is of no use for this so I am posting here. Am I
doing something wrong? If anyone can help me understand this basic
investing it would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks

jeffpo
