Let me help you with your confusion. Many people prefer the> having sub categories. Money 2005 allows sub categories. It does not > allow two separate fields on entry. Or you can type > only the sub category and if it is a unique sub category it will supply > the primary category. hierarchical list because they use a drop down list. Having the separate sub-category makes that list much more compact. Picture a person that fills out multiple schedule E IRS forms corresponding to 10 houses that he rents out. Each income and expense category for them would need a unique sub-category for each property to get the data to the right schedule E. Classifications cannot do that, as was pointed out by a recent poster. That may be an unusual example. Similarly, when I go to the Transfers. That list stretches out to one line per account. So getting down to Loan Payment: Sharkie's Bonecrushers means would I have to have to type s-h-a-r k if I have a Rent:shared category? Does that method even work for loan payments? |

| I am very confused by this thread and other threads that talk about not having sub categories. Money 2005 allows sub categories. It does not allow two separate fields on entry. To enter a category or sub category you either type the name a colon and the subcategory. Or you can type only the sub category and if it is a unique sub category it will supply the primary category. I for one do not see this as an issue to not go to Money 2005. All of my categories and sub categories carried over to 2005. They did set up some new top level categories that I needed to move to sub categories, but that was a one time task. So now when I want to enter Automobile : Gasoline I simply enter gasoline and it finds it. When I want to enter Automobile : Maintenance I can enter maintenance since the automobile is the first. However, Home : Maintenance does require that I enter home:Ma which fills in the remainder and I can tab out of the field. It is just a new way of doing it. | Only Microsoft knows for sure and they're not talking much about M05. "Jim" <tanner_ja[at]hotmail.com> wrote in message news:5Yqad.369411$Fg5.231270[at]attbi_s53... - quote - > Can you explain why its not there? |

| Michael, Can you explain why its not there? I've been using these for > 10 years and really liked that feature. I see that you can add them, but it's very painful to have to scroll to the top to add it. Begin able to just tab over was sooooo much easier. Guess I'll stick with 2004 for now. I have the 2005 Trial version running on a second computer, so I've kept two versions running, now I don't have to worry about not being able to go back to 2004 from 2005. | If you're talking about category:subcategory (as opposed to category | subcategory), that capability is not there in 2005. -- Michael Gordon MVP "Vasu" <vasu_suja[at]hotmail.com> wrote in message news:340a01c4af30$39987400$a401280a[at]phx.gbl... - quote - > Earlier version displayed me to enter the sub-categories > whereas the present one (2005) after the update, does not > shows the sub-cateogories |
