| I recommend upgrading. However, if it's a standard version, online updates of stock prices has expired for '04, I believe. There are differences in the budget module, IIIRC. '02 had a 'pay yourself first' concept built into the budget assumptions. '04 does not. Do a backup before upgrading, then run msmoney -s. That does a file repair to fix any broken links, etc. Export a net worth statement to Excel including all (even closed) accounts from '02 before you upgrade. Do not allow the upgrade to delete the old version. Export a net worth statement from '04 after upgrade. Make sure they match. If not, examine transactions in accounts where they don't match, in both versions. Again, an export to Excel may simplify comparing them side-by-side. In my '03 to '04, and '04 to '05 upgrades, some deposits got recorded as negative numbers. They were easy to identify by sorting an account register on amount. Revising them manually is tedious but not difficult. Those were related to investment transactions, I believe. I do not recall if I had similar problems in '02 to '04. -- Chris Cowles, Gainesville, FL "Rick Linsk" <linskvacation[at]yahoo.com> wrote in message news:37cf01c4aed4$9ae846b0$a601280a[at]phx.gbl... - quote - > Folks, > I have MM 2002 on my desktop. | Folks, I have MM 2002 on my desktop. Recently I received an OEM version of MM 2004 bundled with a new laptop. I'm wondering: * Is it a good idea to use that CD to upgrade from 2002 to 2004 (what advantages?); * What pitfalls if any? * What else should I expect or anticipate about the upgrade? Thanks much, Rick |
