The purpose of recocilation is making sure that what's in Money = what's on
the paper statement. Brokerage statement includes your positions, so
reconcilation verifies them. The questions like "your contribution during
this period" most lilkely reflect the investment model most familiar to
Microsoft employees, i.e. when they get the stock as job benefit, vs. buying
stocks for cash. Hence, Money during reconcilation verifies that stock
positions are correct, but it does not verify the cash portion, nor interest
accrued.

To see the cash, open investment account and click "cash transactions" on
the left.

To reconcile, just compare the ending balance showed by the brokerage
statement to the balance in Money.

I imagine, all that applies to the "advanced" view.

You can't reconcile retirement accounts in the manner you reconcile a bank
account. Previous versions allowed reconciliation of the cash section as you
would a bank account but '05 seems to take you directly to the 401k Wizard.
You can mark individual transactions as reconciled but it won't tell you
it's balanced. This is a functional loss, in my opinion. (If I'm missing
something I welcome corrections by others.)

Contributions to the IRA go to the cash account. Investments take place in
the investment transactions section, using cast available in the cash
sections.

Total cash/investments in the account can be seen in the account summary.

Default cash / contribution

I'm still unsuccessful in getting the cash part of the
account (seems to be called contribution for IRA) to be
included properly.

And then to reconcile the cash - it wants me to enter the
number of shares I have to each investment???

Could someone please explain exactly how the investment
accounts work - e.g. how to reconcile, where one can
easily see the total cash in the account, etc.

I can't find this in the documentation.

Thanks.
