Default Re: Pruning old accounts

I may not actually delete it but only close it. Money may be designed in a
way that makes keeping old investment related transactions in order to
calculate portfolio performance.

There are some tricks available to re-enable an investment thought to have
been deleted. Doing so allows unassigning an investment symbol to recycle it
on another investment. Perhaps there's some way to re-enable and rename the
'deleted' stock option in your problem. Not ever having undeleted an
investment I don't know the details. Other respondents here probably do.

What's the issue with making the new one unique. Even publicly traded
options have the expiration date, etc., in the name. They're not just named
'IBM Put' but incorporate the date and strike price. Wouldn't it be logical
to name your grants using a similar scheme?

Why this is not unique? If I really deleted the previous account, it should
be unique. How do I clean the database to really get rid of the reference?

I think it expects each separate grant for stock XX made in 2004 to be a
separate (unique) description. Maybe change the ' (2)' to ' 09-04' or
something else to make it a unique description.

One information that might be useful: I'm using Money 2005.

Let me go through the process entirely (actions in parenthesis):

1) Create a stock option grant (Next> )
2) Enter stock name (pick stock symbol, Next> )
3) Has your company stock split (Next> )
4) Enter the grant information... (Grant Date, Quantity, Strike Price,
Next> )

*** NEXT STEP IS THE PROBLEM ***
5) Money recommends the following name:
XXX Stock 2004 Grant (2)

If I remove the "(2)" and press Next, I get:

The name "XXX Stock 2004" is already being used, etc etc, etc, and do not
allow me to continue. Note that there is no combo box in this screen. Only a
text box is available.

What can I do?

Regards,

Go to the accounts list. From the menu on the left side, select "Sort
Account List By" and then uncheck "Hide Closed Accounts." That should reveal
your 'A' account. You can then right click the 'A' account and choose
delete. Hopefully that works for you.

Let's go thru the process. Please identify where in the process you
are getting your error indication-- if it is not solved where I
have *** in my crude description below:

:AccountList-> AddANewAccount-> Other-Next

:EmployeeStockOption-Next

:At this point the process says "Enter the stock name associated with this employee option grant."
:***USE THE DROP-DOWN LIST*** assuming that the stock has been previously defined.

:TrackTransactionsAndOtherDetails-Next

:Next-Next-XXX-Next.... GrantNamedefault XXX 2004 grant)

: ...etc...

:has a box Account Name: "XXX Stock Options" may be offered

The account does not show there, but Money is keeping somewhere a reference
to it. When I try to add the account (money even suggest me an account with
a "(2)" in it) I get this message:

The name "XXX" is already being used for an investment in your Money file.
Please enter a different name for the stock option grant.

How can I wipe this reference out?

Thanks!

I created a stock option plan, named "A". Then I deleted. When I try to add
another account named "A", the software complains that exists an account
with that name already. But I cannot find it anywhere. How do I prune
deleted/closed accounts?

Thx

Do you mean an account or an investment? An account is a thing
listed in the Account List.

An investment is something like a mutual fund, stock, etc.

Default Pruning old accounts

Hi,

I created an account for testing, and later I deleted. Now I want to create
another account, but Money tells me an account with the same name exists.

How do I wipe the deleted accounts out? I know Money keep them for records
purpose, but I don't want that.

Please help! Thanks!
