| Jeff, I tried the backdoor way of Restoring Backup, but STILL ended up with duplicate accounts for my 3 checking accounts. I tried it 5-6 times (one with Money open, one with Money closed, one with clicking update from within BillPay, one from clicking update afterwards within Money... I always had duplicate accounts. I gave up and went back to my original account that just uses BillPay, not MSN sync. If I disable MSN BillPay, THEN sync, then reenable it, I also have duplicate accounts, but these duplicate accounts have a 0 balance, where the backdoor way of Restoring Backups had duplicate accounts with a balance of several thousand dollars. I can't merge accounts because they are NOT in the drop down list, nor on the left hand column. Any ideas? I'm ready to just give up and use BILL Pay and not MSN sync. The only thing with that is I have some Credit Card Accounts that I can't use direct download until I am using MSN. | The sync I did showed up on remote computers. However, just today I started getting the sync error again. It says that "the information saved in this file does not match the information currently saved on the MSN Money website. Close and reopen Money. ....." Closing and restarting Money then results in direction to disable MSN Billpay and select "Access my Money data on the web". Instead, I went back to Moneycentral and did the same trick, restore backup from with Portfolio. This worked again, but begs the question why does it break in the first place. Jeff "William L. | It seems to work on the same computer, but not on a remote computer. When you access your data on MSN, is the file that is used the same name as when you access your data using M05? When you see the data on MSN, if the data is not availabe on the MS server, the data you see may be coming from your own computer. Can someone clarify exactly what we are seeing, and where it is located with each access method--msn or M05? | Jeff - Did the sync - once it was working - delete any current data on the Money Central site? I've been trying to clean (delete) data there with no luck. Thanks "Jeff" <jamacq-remove[at]erols.com> wrote in message news:eGrwF4grEHA.1204[at]TK2MSFTNGP12.phx.gbl... - quote - > I just had success today in solving my long running problem with getting > both Billpay and synchronization to work in Money 2005. > I like many others have been having a problem since the upgrade in getting > Billpay to work and also to get MSN synchronization to work. | Jeff HOLY $hit! It worked like a charm! YOU ARE THE MAN!!!!!! You don't know how much you have helped me man! I fought and fought with the program and you did in 1/2 hour what 4 different techs couldn't do over two days!!! I'll make sure to point out your link to anyone who has trouble! Now the program works beautifully... I actually like it now! Thanks again man! Andy Albany, NY - quote - > -----Original Message----- > Let me know if you have any troubles getting it to work. | Let me know if you have any troubles getting it to work. I've had one other person contact me indicating that the solution worked for them. I will try your method and get back to the board... for the sake of EVERYONE who has been going through this! Thanks! | I just had success today in solving my long running problem with getting both Billpay and synchronization to work in Money 2005. I like many others have been having a problem since the upgrade in getting Billpay to work and also to get MSN synchronization to work. It's been my belief that the two problems were tied to each other. A few weeks ago I had posted that I successfully got Billpay to work within 2005, but still no luck with synchronization. As a reminder, here's how I got Billpay to work. I started with a working version of my Money 2004 file, disabled MSN sync while leaving Billpay operational from within Money 2004. I then upgraded the file to 2005 and Billpay continued to work. However until today, I was never able to get synchronization to work. And the supposed steps to get there were to disable Billpay from within 2005 and then sync. Doing so, however, would lead to neither working. Today I found a backdoor way to get synchronization to work without messing up my functioning Billpay. And you don't need to disable Billpay and you won't get duplicate accounts. Here are the steps I took: 1. I went into MSN Moneycentral and loaded the Portfolio Manager by going to MSN Money and selecting Portfolio within the Investing section. 2. Once the shell of the Porfolio loads, go to the left hand tasks bar at the bottom and click on "More|File Options|Restore backup". 3. I then selected my current Money 2005 data file "xxx.mny" as the source to restore from. I had thought that this option would do a onetime sync and hopefully bring in investments from the Money file. And it did that accurately. What surprised me is that when I then went into my Money 2005 file, I found that it was now successfully synchronizing with MSN. Apparently, this restore backup option actually invokes a sync with Money. It was that simple. No requirement to disable Billpay. No endless loop asking me to choose between old data on MSN or the data in my Money file. The only problem encountered so far was that after successfully syncing, I found that some of the account options for some of my accounts had changed in the Money file. My selection of favorite accounts were no longer selected and my settings for retirement accounts had been unselected. It was a simple matter to go into the affected accounts, select "change account details" and re-check the boxes as appropriate for "Favorite Account" and/or "Retirement account". I'm now at a point where I have everything working pretty much as it did in 2004. I'd be interested in hearing if anyone else that was having this problem (I know you're out there) can recreate the above steps and get the same successful conclusion as I did today. Either the Money team fixed something or I stumbled upon a backdoor workaround to solve the problem. Jeff |
