I would copy each file from the backup floppies to the same
directory/folder. This will give you an extra backup of the good
floppy separate any problems of reading the floppy media from some
other potential problem.

Presumably you will fail when you try to copy the *d2.mbf file.

You can try reading that file to the hard drive of another computer
or two. Sometimes drive-to-drive variations will let a different
machine read it.

Otherwise I would seek out a disk recovery service or program, with
the service probably having the higher likelihood of success. I
don't know who is good or not, however.

I have been using Money 99 since mid 99. (It does what I want and I
haven't seen any new feature worth the price.)

Today, I discovered what I believe is a database corruption problem.
I can open my .mny file with no apparent problem. If I try to display
the price history of a few certain investments, Money dies due to an
illegal operation. The problem does not occur with numerous other
investments nor does it occur at all if I use a copy of the file I
created last December.

I read the two articles in the faq and the KB articles referenced
there, both of which state they apply to M99.

I executed Money with the -s option with no apparent affect.

I downloaded salvage.exe from MS, executed the program to unzip the
utility, and then ran salv.exe, all per the instructions. It displays
the windows where I select the type of salvaging and the files to use.
When I begin the repair operation all I get is an error window that
says "Invalid database". This happens whether I use my current .mny
file or the "good" December copy.

For what it's worth, my attempt to restore last week's backup (my only
one from floppy (it occupies three disks and I reuse the floppies))
results in the message "'A:\Schwarz backup d1.mbf' is corrupted or is
not a Money backup file." (I don't know if it is significant but the
message appears at about the spot where I would expect a request to
mount the second disk.) I assume this means that the problem was
introduced prior to making that backup.

Any thoughts about how I can fix my database or what is wrong with
salv.exe.

My current plan is to export the two investment accounts that have the
problem, note the manual price updates, delete all the activities for
all the investments in those accounts, delete and recreate the
accounts and the investments, import all the activity, and manually
re-enter the price updates. Any thoughts on an easier solution.
