| I actually archived my file in 2004 before I moved it over to 2005. I removed everything prior to 2004. Still, the payees and categories were there, and in many cases they were duplicated several times over. Are you saying I need to archive again now, after deleting all the duplicate payees? | Unfortunately payees (and securities) aren't really deleted when you delete them; they lurk in the file and the only way I know how to remove them permanently is through archive. If you're not exaggerating about taking 2 hours to enter bills each time, it seems to me that it would be more efficient to revert to 2004 and enter data up through now! dordale ![]() "John Kowalke" <kowalke[at]cox.net> wrote in message news:eOl5WUAuEHA.2980[at]tk2msftngp13.phx.gbl... - quote - > Well, I have done quick file repairs, standard file repairs, deleted > duplicate payees and categories, and disabled MSN integration. I wanted to suggest an experiment: telling your software firewall to> duplicate payees and categories, and disabled MSN integration. Yet, when I > attempt to record a scheduled transaction from the Bills and Deposits > screen, it takes (and I am not exaggerating) 1-2 minutes for the dialog box > to disappear and the program to return access to the mouse. I don't propose to have a theory as to what is happening, but I am curious if there will be a noticeable effect. |

| Well, I have done quick file repairs, standard file repairs, deleted duplicate payees and categories, and disabled MSN integration. Yet, when I attempt to record a scheduled transaction from the Bills and Deposits screen, it takes (and I am not exaggerating) 1-2 minutes for the dialog box to disappear and the program to return access to the mouse. Mind you, I am running Windows XP on P4-2.8 GHz with 1 GB of RAM here, no slouch machine. I can't imagine what this program is doing that takes THAT long, unless the data file is just terrible fragmented or something. Sounds like MS needs to move this to the Jet or MSDE engines or something to increase performance. Sadly, I am too far in to go back to 2004 now. I can only hope for a patch and schedule about 2 hours to enter my bills each week. | I asked for a different reason, John -- I've seen this payee issue before (the new ones take their name from the memo of the transaction) and suspected that enabling roaming is what caused this behavior. | I do have that enabled. I haven't tried disabling it yet to see if it makes a difference. I am finally done deleting all the duplicate payees - I then did a Quick File Repair. It seems to have sped things up a little, but it still takes a long time when I click on the New or Edit buttons on the transaction forms. Subsequent clicks are instantaneous, though, so it only happens the first time I sign in. It also takes what I would consider an unusually long time to edit a scheduled bill or deposit. | I am also experiencing a drastic slowdown in 2005 over 2004. I went into Payees and noticed that I probably have 20,000 payees in there - multiple payees from downloaded transactions over the years. For example, some of the payees appear as "CHECK 1219" (this might appear 6-7 times), "CHECK1220" (6-7 times), etc. Unfortunately, Money only seems to allow me to delete payees one at a time, which is rather frustrating. Rather than get carpal tunnel syndrome, I downloaded a program that will simulate key strokes, so I can run that and delete payees (I sorted by last payment date, the vast majority of these payees have never been paid). Anyway, I am hoping once this is done (probably in a few days) the speed of the file will speed up. | I've owned Money 2003 to 2005, and the performance problem has grown progressively worse. It irritates me that Microsoft so far has refused to even acknowledge that the problem exists. Microsoft's advice is the same as always: archive (big mess, different problem); repair (doesn't work); remove Passport (no impact). The reality is that when you do certain operations (Tax summary, match/unmatch and accept transactions) the msmoney process uses up 100% of CPU and it just sits there for several minutes. I initially had these problems on my "old" P4-1.33 GHz/768 MB RAM (Money 2003-2004) and continue to experience these in my new P4-3.00GHz-HT with 512MB RAM. msmoney just eats up whatever CPU it can find. Now I am seriously considering going back to Quicken even if it means a painful migration process. My stress level shoots up when I have to wait one minute for the program to respond to a mouse click. Is Microsoft ever going to do something? Thanks! | I have been using Money since 1996. I have upgraded each year, each time upgrading the file. I also archive all trasactions from Jan 1 - Dec 31. This program runs very slowly even without all the extra transactions. I can't figure it out. I download transactions and it takes forever for them to show up in the register. When I accept them, it takes forever for that to take. This was also the case in Money 2004. Are there any reccomendations? Should I start a new file and import the tranactions? HELP |
