If the change does not "take" for some reason, change the name slightly-- perhaps by appending a trailing space to the name. The recurring problem will be on download, do you want to keep telling Money this is the same security but for Money to not update the symbol. You can do that. The alternative is say this is a new security with a new name, such as "brk workaround". Then get used to telling Money to not update your positions. If you slip, just delete or void the AddShares and RemoveShares transactions that Money inserts. This is not going to be good for you, however, if they start paying a dividend. That would get bothersome. The real answer would be for Money to accept separate symbols for broker downloads and quotes. However other areas take priority in deciding which things to improve. |

| Cal-- I have a similar problem with a stock--Berkshire Hathaway Class A. Its symbol downloads from my broker as BRK[space]A, but Money 2003 needs to have BRK.A in order to look up the current and historical prices. But I can't find a way to edit the line item in my portfolio to change only the symbol. Am I out of luck??? Thanks. The work-around is to define the options as stocks, just as you did> 2002, I simply would manually go into each security that I'd downloaded from > E*Trade and manually change the ticker symbol, amending the ".", and > everything was happy. > Up until MS Money 2003. You are going to have a hard time making the case with etrade that> this plea for help. I've actually spent the last 3 months going thru both > Microsoft (good luck) and my account rep at E*Trade (which seems like the > easier route) to either give me the ability to change option tickers again > (Microsoft) or give me the "correct" ticker symbols in the first place > (E*Trade). with-the-dot is "the correct" ticker. What would be nice IMHO is to allow separate symbols for broker download and quote download. - quote - > So it's been three months and I'm down to this: . . . "HELP!" |

| Greetings all, I've been using MS Money (several versions) successfully to download my brokerage trades from E*Trade for several years now. There's been a small issue with the ticker symbols E*Trade uses for Equity Options which until recently has been more of an annoyance rather than a problem: The standard E*Trade uses for Equity Options ticker symbols is a standard 4 or 5 letter code. E*Trade's ticker symbol for the Altria JAN 30-strike call is: MOAF Microsoft, however, uses a slightly different ticker standard: they use the exact same 4 or 5 letter code but with a "." (dot) preceding it. Microsoft's version of the Altria JAN 30-strike call is: .MOAF Effectively, what happens when I download my trades/statement from E*Trade into MS Money, I get the "MOAF" versions of the tickers. This in and of itself wouldn't really be a problem, however if I upload my portfolio to MS Portfolio tracker or use MS Money's daily market data downloads to updates prices, re-value my portfolio, etc. then MS Money has no idea what security "MOAF" is and the prices never updates. Annoying to say the least, but not unsolvable. Up and thru MS Money version 2002, I simply would manually go into each security that I'd downloaded from E*Trade and manually change the ticker symbol, amending the ".", and everything was happy. Up until MS Money 2003. I now have a wonderful new "feature" that doesn't allow me to change ticker symbols for Equity Options that I've downloaded from E*Trade. Changing ticker symbols for downloaded options is simply "not an option". You can't do it. Though this problem has been annoying me for years I've held off on posting this plea for help. I've actually spent the last 3 months going thru both Microsoft (good luck) and my account rep at E*Trade (which seems like the easier route) to either give me the ability to change option tickers again (Microsoft) or give me the "correct" ticker symbols in the first place (E*Trade). So it's been three months and I'm down to this: . . . "HELP!" Thanks for any advice, -Dom 1dyg-02cw[at]spamex.com |
