Default Re: 2005: Update Retirement Account working OK for others?

Thank you for the update. At least we've got the issue reported. The 401k
manager workaround is certainly a weak one. Let's hope they can fix things
on their end.

Here's Microsoft Support's response:

MESSAGE:

********************** The message for you follows ************************

Dear Rob,

This is Cara from Microsoft Money Online Support, and I'll be assisting you
with your case today.

After viewing the case log, my understanding is that you are unable to
update the retirement account properly. If I have misunderstood, please let
me know.

I am sorry to hear about the inconvenience you are experiencing. As I can
reproduce this behavior on my side, therefore this should be a Money issue.
I have reported it to our Product Team for further investigation. At the
same time, I would like to provide the following workaround and see if this
can meet your needs.

Important: please go to File > Back Up... to back up your Money file first.
If you are not satisfied with the results, you can retrieve your original
Money file easily.

Step 1: Use 401(k) Manager

=====================

1. In Money 2005, click Investing.

2. Click Investing Tools > 401(k) Manager 3. Click Update this account.

4. Follow the instructions to update the account.

Step 2: Manually enter the Contribution and Dividend information
===================== 1. Click Investing, click Investing Tools > Portfolio
Manager.

2. Click the retirement account in question.

3. Click Cash Transactions.

4. Manually enter the contribution and dividend as cash into the account.

I understand this workaround does not work as expected and I apologize for
any inconvenience this may have caused. I have reported this issue to our
Product Team. If there is any update, I will inform you as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, your understanding and patience are appreciated.

Again, thank you for taking the time to contact us. If you have any concerns
regarding this issue, please feel free to let me know. It is my pleasure to
be of assistance.

Best Regards,

Cara

Thanks for your response. I'd like to 'bug it with MS'. How does one go
about doing so?

It is on the bug list. I'm not sure how long things take to be on KB
articles, but I don't know whether this will get one IF they get around to
fixing it (i would guess that the BillPay ones are impacting more people at
the moment, and so are highter up the priority scale. However, if you want
to, you could bug it with MS too so that they know there are more people).

It sounds as if it's the standard simplified balancing afforded by 401k
manager vs. the more involved 'update retirement account' option. If so,
that is completely unacceptable and I can't imagine why more folks are not
complaining. That balance method doesn't include the option to track
employer matching contributions much less the ability to do any type of
detailed dollar cost averaging. It doesn't even involve buys and sells, but
rather treats all changes to the portfolio as additions/subtractions.

How does one go about getting something like this on a bug list that will
actually get investigated and hopefully addressed at the very least in the
knowledge base with a more appropriate solution.

This is a giant step backward from the prior versions capabilities.

All i know is - Go to the Portfolio Manager - On the menu bar click

It's currently a known issue. For US users, there is a workaround using the
401(k) manager, but not all versions (including mine) has that.

Yes, I'm experiencing the same problem under Money 2005 Premium running on
Windows XP SP 2.

I've tried everything imaginable also to resolve it. Nothing on the KB
either that I can find.

Yes, I'm experiencing the same problem with Money 2005 Premium on Windows XP
with Service Pack 2.

I have yet to see anything on the knowledge base in regard to the problem
and no updates here in the past couple of weeks.

Any ideas on what's being done to trouble shoot this problem and resolve it?

Default 2005: Update Retirement Account working OK for others?

Every month I use the somewhat tedious Update Retirement Account wizard to
enter the month's 401(k) transactions. Since upgrading to Money 2005, I get
an error at the end of the process when I click the Finish button: "Your
information is being saved. If the problem persists..." When I click OK,
none of my data is saved.

Anyone else having the same problem? I've tried everything...work offline,
delete the online data, recreate the online data, etc. Thanks!

-Doug
