I think if you EVER want access to that data, you have to keep a version of
Money around at least as new as any of the archive files. If you can't
commit to that (I'd not assume I could do so) then you'll need to figure out
a conversion scheme. I'm betting the only one worth peanuts is to first
bring them all into M04/05 and then do the Quicken XML process to migrate
the data into Quicken files. I've never archived and can't imagine doing so
nor can I imagine the data getting wedged in some museum application. This
is why the conversion issue is a big one to me.

All the MVPs get is the Microsoft title. The only things about this
newsgroup that makes it a "Microsoft" group are the name and the fact that
they expose it in a web format as well. If Microsoft removed this group from
their server tomorrow, it would likely live on for years without them just
fine. The MVPs do yeoman work and sometimes even they can't keep up a
Positive Mental Attitude to all posters at all times. Switching to Quicken
because of an MVP comment seems like a bit of an overreaction. Granted,
there may be other reasons to do so.

Hello Dick. No I did not convert any data. With the new year coming
up, it simply wasn't necessary. I'm still deciding, though, what to do
with all the years of Money archives. Any suggestions?

P.S. I know MVPs aren't actually employed by Microsoft, but they do
work with Microsoft's blessing. This is a Microsoft Usenet newsgroup
after all.

Hello. The problem is this. In MSMoney 2004, I tried turning on
auto-reconcile for a Credit Card account. It worked, but I didn't like
it. Then, after turning the feature back off, MS Money nevertheless
continued to auto-reconcile. It's a problem for which questions often
get asked. It's now been doing this for over a year. If you search
through Usenet archives, e.g. at Google Groups, you'll find similar
complaints -- but never a solution. There is no solution, that's why
no one answered my post (though, on a previous post, I did get a
flippant comment from an MVP -- hence my switch to Quicken). A simple
and polite response from someone in-the-know could have been of
termendous help. Too late now, of course.

MVPs are not "from Microsoft." See http://umpmfaq.info/faqdb.php?q=11.

Did you convert your data to Quicken or start over? If the former, how did
you do it? How successful was it?

I am not an MVP, but having never seen the bug you reported and you did
not provide any information concerning what the bug was. I personally
had turned off the auto reconcile after turning it on. So I guess the
group could have quizzed you more but it did not seem with all of the
other issues that it was worth tracking down a request that did not
appear true to the rest of us. If you are currious, please explain the
problem more.

Any how, glad that you like your new product.

Hello. Since no "MVP" from Microsoft will, I'll answer my own post. I
could not take the chance that this problem still exists in MSMoney
2005. And, I'm a little disappointed in the quality of the MVP replies
in this newsgroup. So, after using MSMoney since its inception in 199*,
I just purchased Quicken Premier 2005. Works great! I am very
satisfied with my new product.

Default Money 2005 automatic reconcile

Hello, I'm evaluating the newest financial software. Can someone
familiar with MSMoney 2005 answer a question, please. Money 2004 has
an auto-reconcile bug. It's a program feature that, once its option is
turned on, stays on regardless of the setting of that option. Has
this been fixed in 2005?
Thank you.
