Default RE: Bills Summary Question

This situations mirrors my situation exactly, even down to the versions. It
appears that Money 2005 is completely useless to me since I require a 3 month
lookahead for bills such as hydro (which is a major expense but is billed
every 3 months). Even if I wanted to (but I don't) get the deluxe version, I
am from Canada and most convenient retailers here only carry the standard
Canadian version. I'll go back to the 2000 version also since there was no
useful new features which I use here anyway.

Default Re: Bills Summary Question

Before ranting, I would like to sincerely thank those who
pointed me to the "forecast cash flow" capability. Now,
for the ranting...

I'm definitely returning Money 2005 for a refund.

When learning about the Forcast Cash Flow function, I was
ready to give Money05 a go. Then, the straw that broke the
camels back... "Cash Flow is only available in the deluxe
or greater versions of Money05."

This is the last straw! It's bad enough that Microsoft
removed the SIMPLEST of functionality on the Bills Summary
page. But to top that off with the Help File telling me I
have to UPGRADE to obtain this functionality that I had in
a standard version all along??? Grrrrrr...

How could it have hurt to just leave the time frame option
on Bills Summary? Are they just trying to make extra
dollars by forcing us to buy the non-standard version?
Now, in Money05 Standard, there is NO WAY to forcast your
account balance(s) beyond the next occurance of each
scheduled item.

That is bullsh*t, so I'm returning the product. I guess
I'll just stick with Money2000 until it will no longer run
on Windows. I plan on writing a nice letter expressing my
dissatisfaction with this product as well as my COMPLETE
LACK of understanding for why this change (LOSS) was made.

If you read this far, thanks to all those who helped,

best wishes,

Kelly

I may have just answered my own question... Since I'm at
work and don't have the Money 2005 CD with me, I looked
for a trial version to play with. All I could find is a
Money2004 trial. There, I found the Forcast Cash Flow
screen. Is this the same as in Money 2005? If so, I may be
good to go!

Thanks

Ok, it really sounds like I need to give this another
try... Last night, in a fit of frustration, I already
installed Money2005 with intent to return to Microsoft.

In my short session with Money2005, I saw nothing about
Cash Flow. Probably because I was so fixated on using
the "Bills Summary" screen as I always have in the past.

Would you be so kind as point out where "Cash Flow"
and "Forcast Cash Flow" are to be found? Do these use a
similar interface to the former "Bills Summary?" In other
words, can I click/unclick various scheduled items and see
their net effect on my balance?

Thanks again, I'll give it another try this evening.

Kelly

Unfortunately, that has generally NOT been the case with subsequent versions of
Money.

Since M99, they have added no new features that I use; they have not fixed any
bugs that affect me; they have introduced new bugs; and they have removed
features which I were useful to me.

I am presently using M2003 and hoping that by the time it can no longer
download stock updates and banking data automatically from the web, that
someone will have either hacked the code, or that there will be a credible
competitor.

Nope you don't need a budget - I have managed to stay away from one of
those!! ;-)

All you need to do is have some scheduled payments, transfers whatever and
all occurrences within the time-frame you chose will show up in Cash Flow.

The logic escaped us as well, but they did it four versions ago. (Actually,
the logic didn't quite escape us--they had usability lab problems with the
two different bills pages--some people didn't get it and thought they could
edit the nth occurrence and so on. So you see the results of their
redesign.)

You do not need a budget for forecast cash flow to work. It starts with your
scheduled items. In fact, tended and budget items get mixed in as well and
this can cause problems. But you can fix these problems with Customize Cash
Flow. (At least that's what they called it in M04. I can't recall what they
call it in M05.)

But to use "Forcast Cash Flow," it seems that I have to
setup a complete budget? (Did I miss something?) Doing so
seems completely redundant, as I have already entered all
of my recurring bills and a budget would simply be a copy
of my monthly bills and deposits.

The "Bills Summary" view does (did) everything I need it
to do except that "Within 1 month" "Within 2 months" drop
down is gone. The logic of removing that completely
escapes me.

Thanks for the reply,

Kelly

Kelly,
Life and Microsoft Money CHANGE over time. You must decide if you are
willing to do things differently. Many people want to do things the same way
because it is easier but sometimes new ways are really better. True, it is a
learning curve to do it differently, but after awhile it may seem easier to
you. Only you will know. If you don't want to take chances on changes I would
suggest you not upgrade the Money product. Good luck. Steve

Thanks Dick. That just confirms my fears. There appears
to be no way of using this as I did with Money 2000 and
prior conversions.

I guess I'll be scraping M05. (hehe... so much for the
term "latest and greatest.")

Thanks again,

Kelly

See http://umpmfaq.info/faqdb.php?q=34. This is not new in M05. It was new
in M02.

Default Bills Summary Question

Hello,

I just bought Microsoft Money 2005 Standard, which is an
upgrade from Money 2000 for me.

Back in the 2000 version, on the "Pay Bills" view, you
could choose how far in advance due bills were shown. For
example, you could specify "Within 1 month," or "Within 2
months," or "Within 6 months" etc... I used this ability
to forcast my balance after paying certain bills.

Here in Money 2005, I cannot find how to do this.
The "Bills Summary" view shows me what I want, however,
it is only going approximately 1 month in advance.

Does anyone know how I can have it show me things farther
ahead?

Thanks!

Kelly
