OK. Looking again. I see your point better. I misunderstood the> I put 100,000 in money market account : over time - get 3,000 interest. > By now I've reinvest it all - except 8000. > In Money - on the line for that money market account it shows: > Value Gain %Gain > $8,000 $3,000 37.5 > It's not a 37.5 gain - it WAS a total of a 3% gain - a few years ago. first time. You put in $8000. You reinvest interest/dividends over time of $3000. You now have $11000, which you say is not a gain, because you think gain means "capital gain". In fact, you might even consider the term "capital gain" to be redundant. You would not be the first. But others think that dividends and interest are real money, and that a gain is not limited to capital gain. The solutions for you are twofold. Look at the investment details. There is it includes an annual % return that you might find useful. But the most important one for you is to customize the portfolio view and remove the Gain Column. In its place Add the Price Appreciation column. You will notice that when you select a potential column to Add or Remove, a description will appear explaining the meaning. You may find others that you want to Add or Remove. The Save or SaveAs. - quote - > How can I clear that out so that it doesn't show a gain - it's actually
You can have both. What you can't do is to rename the Price> reinvested dividends - and those have been moved around. I tried to sell it > all / buy it back thinking that it may adjust my cost basis. You might find the Taxes-> CapitalGainsEstimator to be useful in exploring the effects of selling off various lots. |

All of the money markets are setup as money markets ...> to have it defined as a mutual fund, as long as you use a fixed $1 > value. Fid Cash Reserves Treasury Money Marlet Select Mobey Market Vanguard Money Market etc - all = money markets in the Category column. Don;t others have this same problem ? another example - in my IRA money market .. years old .. have received $2000 in interest: <technically the MMkt account is worth $2000 more , so it IS an increase in value . but I don't consider it a GAIN, since I bought it all at $1 and it is still $1 - that's my problem vs Money's view Currently in my Money market account , I have $6 - yet with $2000 interest, it shows a $2000 gain and 54,565% gain. Follow down the columns and those numbers are added into my portfolio gains. Look at the transactions for your MMF. There should only be Buy,> I put 100,000 in money market account : over time - get 3,000 interest. > By now I've reinvest it all - except 8000. > In Money - on the line for that money market account it shows: > Value Gain %Gain > $8,000 $3,000 37.5 > It's not a 37.5 gain - it WAS a total of a 3% gain - a few years ago. Sell, Dividend and ReinvestDividend transactions IMHO. A convenient way to see the transactions is to right-click the holding in the Portfolio. Select SeeInvestmentActivities. - quote - > How can I clear that out so that it doesn't show a gain - it's actually

| I have M2001 and M2004 -- Problem in simple terms: I put 100,000 in money market account : over time - get 3,000 interest. By now I've reinvest it all - except 8000. In Money - on the line for that money market account it shows: Value Gain %Gain $8,000 $3,000 37.5 It's not a 37.5 gain - it WAS a total of a 3% gain - a few years ago. How can I clear that out so that it doesn't show a gain - it's actually reinvested dividends - and those have been moved around. I tried to sell it all / buy it back thinking that it may adjust my cost basis. I know what it IS showing - how to get it to NOT show as a gain - I really just want it as cash - but Money doesn't like that when it reconciles to my statement. And I DO want to see that column (for all of my other stuff) Thanks. Bobb |
