Create a credit line account and transfer money from it to checking.

related to student loans, does anyone know how to reconcile a student loan
with your income. for example, i have a student loan, and after tuition, i
have cash left over that goes into my bank account for living expenses, food,
rent, etc. how do I make it so that my bank statement and net worth and loan
amounts all reconcile with each other?

thanks

I'm not sure I know how Money could have an account type that would solve
this. The floating rate, term, and payment are precisely why Money can't
readily model this, nor does it have a way to tell what % of a balance some
arbitrary stream of transactions represents. I agree this has limitations
for, say, getting the best results from DRP. (You could use a projected rate
here and get pretty close.)

But as long as you can get the date from the web or where ever, you can
enter transactions for the interest expense and your balance should track.
If you don't want to go find and enter interest transactions every month,
reconcile the account once a year or whenever and tell Money that you want
to put the difference in an Interest expense transaction. It'll still work
out the same.

I think what you are really seeking is some way for Money to get all of the
account particulars for any kind of account automagically (what is current
rate, etc) rather than just the transaction data. My response to that would
be that they all make enough of a mess, apparently, with transaction data
that I'd think you'd want to quit while you were ahead.

I dont get monthly statements in the mail for this account, e-statements
only. If I wanted to track interest rates on this account - I would have to
do it by hand. With all the account types in MS Money, it would be nice to
have one that worked for a student loan.

I'd doubt it. What would they do? Create a type called Student Loan that was
nothing more than a Credit Card?

I'll give it a shot. Is this something that is going to be addressed in
Money 2005?

Some derivative of credit card seems to work best for most people who have
asked this question. You can just enter the interest from your statements as
new expense transactions.

Default Student Loan

What is the best way to create a student loan in Money 04? None of the loan
types seem to match a student loan.
