Out of curiosity, why do you own > 300 stocks? Assuming different market
segments, doesn't the effect of diversification max out around 10-12 stocks?

Sort by the Last Updated column. Note which ones with symbols have
not been updated recently. Make sure each of those is unchecked in
UpdatePrices-> PickQuotesToDownload.

It is tedious, but suspect that will make a big difference for you.

One more thing: if you have not been using the
UpdatePrices-> UpdatePricesOnline, try that one instead of the
Internet Updates. That will limit the retrieval to just quotes. You
may have been already doing that, but I thought I would check.

I upgraded to 2004 only to find out that there is a much greater
limitation than existed in 2003, so I switched back.

Microsoft support was very helpful and helped me to try all sorts of
things but the bottom line according to Microsoft is that 2004 limits
the number of stocks to download. The exact limitation will depend on
your computer configuration, memory and connection but it is much less
than 2003. I was told to wait till 2005 comes out and try out new
version before buying it because it might have the same limitations as
2004. They said I could install the trial version of 2005 without
uninstallling 2003.

If anyone has any experiences when 2005 comes out, I would appreciate
them posting their experiences.

If you configure in the Last Updated column on the Custom portfolio
view, do they all show as having been recently updated? You can sort
by that column by clicking on that column heading once or twice.

I am curious if that is broadband or dialup. 6 to 12 minutes...
dang.

I also have a large portfolio. (310 stocks) It takes portfolio manager 6 to
12 minutes to update prices. all symbols are correct. Tech support
suggested I delete some stocks. Smart answer considering I own all of the
stockls in the portfolio

I am pretty sure there is not a fixed number, and if there is, it is
more than 100.

However it can have problems if there are symbols that don't exist
in the database.

What I would do is go to
Portfolio-> UpdatePrices-> PickQuotesToDownload and de-select any
stocks where you have any doubt about the symbol being valid. Then
add back selections into
Portfolio-> UpdatePrices-> PickQuotesToDownload. See if the price
updates are successful then.

It can also be useful to configure in the Last Updated column on the
Custom portfolio view. Investigate any that have not been updated as
recently as others. Blank or fix the symbol on any that are a
problem.

Default Will Money 05 support bigger portfolios?

I read the other day that Money 2005 is due out at the end
of the month. Here's a question for someone who might know
something about it.

I have been using Money for a long time; using it to update
my stock prices. Money 03 had no trouble with my portfolio,
which has a lot of holdings. When I upgraded (?) to Money
04, however, it wouldn't update prices. Microsoft support
eventually told me that it will only download a limited
number (100?) of quotes. The support person said that might
be changed for Money 05. Does anyone know if that is true?
