Default Re: CREDIT LINES

Check one thing: does the line at the very bottom say "You owe: [a positive
number, in black, with no parentheses]"? If so, this is how liability
accounts are depicted. Look at the Account List and you should see the same
number, in red, with parentheses.

Whether you have a negative balance, or owe a positive balance, it's the
same thing.

If you transfer money between accounts and it gets entered the wrong way,
just use the +/- key (using the drop-down calculator button) to fix it.

I've run into this problem a few times, such as when a credit card company
reissues a card and transfers the balance to the new card, or when I've
given myself a cash advance from a credit card. Using the +/- key fixed the
problem in both cases.

If the entire balance of just one account moves in the wrong direction,
check the account details to see if the starting balance got entered the
wrong way, and use the +/- key to fix it. Do the same for the transactions.

Looking back to your previous post, if you move $1000 from your credit line
to your bank account, if the bank account gets $1000 smaller, you just need
to use the +/- key to fix it. If the bank account gets $1000 bigger as it's
supposed to, but the credit line changes from $4000 owed to $3000 owed,
instead of to $5000 owed, either the starting balance and/or the register
transactions in the line of credit account got entered the wrong way. As
you posted that downloaded data is involved, there is also the possibility
that the bank's download data is incorrect (positive instead of negative, or
vice-versa) If that happens, you can either save the download file, edit
it, then import it, or just not download from that particular institution.

Two other possibilities are that the line of credit got set up as a regular
account instead of a credit/charge account, or that there is file
corruption. I've read of at least one Money user whose credit/charge
account moved in the wrong direction, even though the starting balance and
transactions were correct. I don't remember if the salvage tool fixed it,
or if the account had to be deleted and re-created.

Default CREDIT LINES

Why in the transaction listings do credit lines show a positive balance when
there is actually money owing? This makes it difficult to transfer money
from one account to a credit line.

please answer my question!
