Default Re: Investments - Entering Cost Basis on Setup

What version of Money was on your Win95 machine?

You can get there a number of ways. I'd recommend trying to restore your
Money backups (or copy the old .MNY file, if that is still an option) to new
and different files in M04. Then you can pick your solution knowing that you
are starting with a set of data in M04. The command to restore from a Money
backup file (.MBF file type) is File|Restore in Money.

You will not be able to restore your old data file/backup into the existing
M04 file you just created. Your best bet, once you get the data in some M04
file, is to File|Export them to QIF file(s) and then to import them into the
M04 file you want to use going forward.

I'm curious: did you not have a Money file from the old machine that you
just upgraded and continued using on the new machine? (This is how most of
us use Money.) Did you just have these investments in separate Money files
on the old machine? (This is not how most of us use Money.)

One final possibility: you COULD just start the investments on the new Money
file by creating a BUY for the proper number of shares, use the cost basis
for the transaction value and let Money figure out a "synthetic" share
price. This will solve some problems but not many others like short/long
term cap gains reporting by eventual sales lot.

Default Investments - Entering Cost Basis on Setup

Hi,
Is it possible to enter the current cost basis when setting up investment
transcactions?
I have purchased a new computer with winXP and still have my working win95
with all my investment history on it and on a floppy. I want to show my
cost basis without having all the history on the new computer system. The
only way I have found for Money 2004 to setup a cost basis is with Buy dates
and there would be many plus their not available on statements which would
require manual research. How can I do this??
Is it possible to import my investment Backup from Win95 to Money 2004 from
a floppy? Even after the accounts and transactions are already setup on
Money 2004? Or should I delete everything and start over by putting the
Backup files on the new computer system and then maybe they will be
recognized by Money2004??
Obviously, I don't know what to do.
Thanks for any advice,
Barbara
