| Well I have good news and bad news and offer and apology. (I'm sure some are following this thread.) The good news is that I have my files back. The bad news is that I have been barking up the wrong tree. That is, when I did the clean reboot of my computer, the program that I grabbed from my closet was Money 2002. I did not remember that I had a problem with 2002 and had bought 2004 deluxe and that was what created the backup file. The further bad news, for me, is I just bought another Money 2004 on eBay. So, I really didn't have a problem in the first place and I apologize to those that DO have a similar problem that might have read the thread, while short, in hopes of a fix. However, I am still miffed at Microsoft for two reasons. 1st, that I had a problem in 2002 which required me to buy 2004 to get cleared up. 2nd, that this password box pops up instead of a message pointing out that the backup file was created by Money 2004 rather than the Money 2002 that I was trying to open it with. So, I have Money 2004 standard coming this week and don't need it. Back on eBay it goes! |

| I have been having very much the same sort of problem. In my case, unlike yours Steve, it doesn't work even on the 2004 trial version. (I am trying to restore an MSN Money .mbf backup into Money 2004, but a password popup doesn't accept the only password ever associated with the backup). If anyone has any ideas I'd very much like to hear from them. - quote - > -----Original Message----- > On Sat, 21 Aug 2004 17:22:57 GMT, via_newsgroup[at]please.tnx (Cal > Learner-- MVP) wrote: > > Did the report indicate that the Internet Updates was successful? It wasn't. I've tossed in the towel and bought 2004 on eBay. I lose. Microsoft wins again. |

I would copy that file to anotherName.mny and try to File-> Open that file with your Money 2002. |

| I've gathered a lot of information regarding this and see that the only solution might be an upgrade. Here is my situation. I had to do a clean reboot of my computer and backed up my files on a CD. I reloaded Money 2002 Standard (legal, original CD) from the same CD that my backups were made. When I restore the backups, I keep getting the password box and none that I have ever used, including my existing Passport password is accepted. I did click on updates for my 2002 version hoping that was the key. It did not help. For an experiment, I downloaded the trial version of 2004 and that did open my backup! Yeah!!! But, I don't want to nor should I have to pay $40 to get a program that I already paid for to work. Is there a workaround for this problem? I've been screwing with this problem for several nights. Here it is Saturday morning, when I do my banking, and the program is still broken. |
