Each year I have installed the next version of Money and kept it running
along side of the last years version. You do not need to be on another
drive, just a different directory. The only issue you have is file
assoication for downloads. I solve this by during all downloads I save
them to disk and then import them manually into each of the versions I
am currently running.

If 2005 will not open a 2001 file then it is probably because the 2001
file is corrupted in some manner that was not tested by MS. I had this
problem going from Money 99 to Money 00, but running salvage on the 99
file allowed it to be imported. That was when I learned the advantage
of keeping the old version around until the new version reads the file
correctly. Out of curriouslity I kept the corrupted 99 file around and
tried loading it into subsequent versions of Money. MS improved their
ability on the convert to detect and correct errors as by Money 03 I was
able to import it directly. So I would be very surprised if your 01
file could not be read and converted by 05.

I guess it is very belt and suspenders, but in my line of work we can
not get rid of the old system until we are 100% certain that the new one
works correctly.

The only issue is that installing a second version in a different place on
the same system will result in the file associations all being diverted to
the second version installed. This can be worked around.

Don't restore the M01 file into M05. Just copy and open it. Note that the
file, once opened and upgraded, will NOT be backward compatible to your M01
installation.

I can't imagine a problem, but if a trial version of 2005 comes out, you
might give that do before parting wiht any cash.

Hi ALL,

I currently use MM 2001 and would like to add at this
time I have used MM since way back when, and they have
worked flawlessly. I wouldn't buy the new version but
have decided to start paying bills online and 2001 is not
acceptable at my bank. Planning on installing 2005 on
another drive and leaving my current 2001 where it is
located. Is this wise to do? Does anyone see any problems
by doing this? Is there a problem restoring 2001 files to
2005? Thanking all in advance.
