Cal,

Thanks for jogging my memory a bit! If I understand you correctly,
when Money first determines that direct downloads are available for a
given account from a particular FI the user may be able to select a
period (e.g. 30days, six mos., etc) to get past data for. Assuming
one can't go to the bank's site and do a manual download of older
data, I can see Phil's dilemma.

If I was Phil, I think I'd choose your export/import option though
sometimes this can be flaky with investments (but worth a shot).

What threw me off, is my broker doesn't give me a choice of periods.
They told me they can provide up to two years, but despite being with
them for longer I only got a fixed six months (like it or leave it).
My older statements helped me manually input the rest.

Thanks for clearing things up and fingers crossed for Phil (let us
know)!

Regards,
JB

Money tells the server what date it already has data for, and the
bank normally does not deliver things posted before that date.

What Phil could possibly do is to restore a backup that preceded the
first and ask the initial download to included all of the available
data. That would mean that the information since would have to be
re-entered.

Another possibility is to create a File-> New-> NewFile and download
all of the data from that bank into the new temporary file. Then
File-> Export the transactions into a QIF file. Open the original
file, and File-> Import the QIF into the bank account as a statement.
The duplicate-eliminating algorithm of Money 2004 should eliminate
duplicates. But Phil would be wise to keep an extra copy of the
original file in case things don't work as anticipated.

Phil,

Since, I don't recall any means on account setup that Money has of
specifying the date range for transaction download, your response
leads me to believe you logged on to your firm's website and
downloaded the data. If this is correct, couldn't you just log on
again and download the period you missed the other time?

Regards,
JB

I thought I selected the appropriate number of days history, but I did not.
Yeah, it was a stupid date calculation mistake on my part. But, I would
like to re-download all historical data from a certain data forward. Since
this is only about 30 days, I am certain the investment firm has it to
download. But, I just don't know how to get Money to retrieve it again.

If you're just talking about historical quotes, Money will download six
months' worth of weekly quotes if there is no quote history. To test this
in newer versions of Money, you can right click on an investment & select
"see price history." From there, select "update prices: update prices
manually". If you have some recent history, but nothing older (back to six
months), then you could delete all of the quotes from this screen and Money
should download replacement quotes at the next connection.

If you're talking about transaction history, you will have to enter the
missing transactions by hand. I have not seen a financial institution that
gives more than 90 days worth of transactions.

Phil,

It usually is dependent upon your investment firm. You said "...I did
not download enough...history." Does this mean you chose the date
range for download OR was what you got all your firm could give? I
assume the latter since your question doesn't make sense otherwise
(you could just go back and specify an earlier date).

If you got all you could out of your firm's download, then anything
earlier would have to be manually entered.

Regards,
JB

Default How to download investment history

I use Money 2003. When I set up on-line access to am investment firm, I did
not download enough of the history. How can I download historical info
(valuation changes) from an older date forward?

Thanks, Phil
