Default Re: Can't rename investment because deleted investment has the same name

Either I misunderstood your directions, or I didn't
follow them properly :-) It finally worked!

Here's what I had to do:
My current portfolio had "Blah Blah(0002)" with symbol
BLAH.
I was unable to rename it to "Blah Blah" with symbol BLAH.
1. I changed the symbol name for "Blah Blah(0002)" to
BLAH2
2. I entered a Buy transation for "Blah Blah", which may
have had me go through the New Investment Wizard, I can't
remember. Either way, it worked.
3. I renamed "Blah Blah" with symbol BLAH to "Blah
Blah2" with symbol BLAH2.
4. I renamed "Blah Blah(0002)" to "Blah Blah" and
changed its symbol back to BLAH. (IT WORKED!)
5. I deleted the investment "Blah Blah2"

Thanks Cal, that was a great tip!

I suspect the problem is the not name being duplicated but rather
the symbol. What is the actual error message?

I am suspecting that the error is " 'blah' is already being used as
a name or symbol for another investment. Please enter a different
choice"

Try sorting the portfolio by symbol, and see if you can find an
investment with the same symbol.

I can't seem to get that to work. When I try to enter a
dividend for "Blah Blah", it pops up the Create New
Investment wizard, which has the same "investment already
exists" problem.

I'm using Money 2004, if that matters...

My steps for creating a dividend are:
Click on Investing -> Portfolio
Click on the name of my account
Click the new button at the bottom
Enter "Blah Blah" in the Investment field
Voila! The Create New Investment Wizard appears.

Any other ideas?

Enter a fake dividend for "Blah Blah". Money will ask if you want to
undelete "Blah Blah". Yes.

Then rename "Blah Blah" to something you will never want to use.
BLANK THE SYMBOL, if any. Delete the fake dividend. Now you can
Delete that investment, and you can use the name "Blah Blah" again.

Default Can't rename investment because deleted investment has the same name

I have an investment that gets downloaded as "Blah Blah
(0021)" from my financial institution, and I would like
to view the investment as "Blah Blah". I was able to
rename my other investments like this, but I am unable to
do it with this investment. I'm guessing that I renamed
it at one point and then did something to change it back,
which is causing the error. My question is, is there any
way to actually delete the old investment so that I can
rename my current investment to "Blah Blah"? I can't
seem to find any listings for just "Blah Blah" anywhere
in my information.

Thanks!
