I got errors like that after upgrading from Money 2002 Deluxe to Money 2004> I hit the OK button and nothing happens. When I leave the page Money tells > me my changes will not be saved. > If I try to edit while recording the bill or deposit the new amounts will > record correctly in that instance and when it asks if I want to save the > changes I get a cannot write to file error. > Any ideas, > Tom Standard OEM. As an OEM user, I would have had to pay for support, so I didn't even attempt that. If you have a retail version, you may want to open a support case before proceeding farther. In my case, the problem was unrepairable with either repair tool. If you have not yet attempted repair, both repair tools can be invoked from - quote - > File > Repair Money File in Money 2004. The "Quick" option repairs your
option closes Money, and creates a separate repaired file during repair.actual file, so you may want to make a copy of it first. The "Standard" If you have an earlier version, the quick repair can be invoked from the command line or Run with "msmoney.exe" -r , and the standard repair can be invoked by running salv.exe in the \Money\System directory. If you have Money 2002 or older, you can download a newer version of salv.exe from Microsoft. The only solution I could find was to export all accounts as .qif, then import them simultaneously into a new Money file. Sometimes problems like this get fixed in the next Money version, if you can wait another 2-4 weeks for Money 2005 to be released. Example: I had a corrupted account in Money 2002 that was unrepairable with either repair tool. Upgrading to Money 2003 would've fixed it, but I opted instead to bite the bullet and use the export-import method, in case the problem recurred in the future. Export-import causes data loss. Loan accounts can't be exported, nor can home inventory. Investment price history can be exported from a report to Excel, but there's not a good way to import it. If you have a Deluxe version, the Lifetime Planner can't be exported, either. If you choose to export-import, save a copy of your original data file, as it may be less painful to live with the Bills/Deposits issue than the results, and search this newsgroup (Google may be more effective than your newsreader). There are many posts that describe issues that can arise during export-import, and ways to avoid them. -- Scott Tyler agent_scotty-at-hotmail-dot-com |

| After editing bills or deposits, I am unable to save the changes. I hit the OK button and nothing happens. When I leave the page Money tells me my changes will not be saved. If I try to edit while recording the bill or deposit the new amounts will record correctly in that instance and when it asks if I want to save the changes I get a cannot write to file error. Any ideas, Tom |
