I would next import from my broker, allowing the bogus "Microsoft Stock" to be added. Disassociate Stock from Money Download The purpose of this is disassociate a security from the download process. The problem this cures is that Money associates downloaded stock by CUSIP. Renaming and/or changing the symbol is not sufficient to appear as a different security. Create dis_sk.ofx by cutting and pasting the portions between the Begin and End lines (below) into a file named dis_sk.ofx. File-> Import dis_sk.ofx into Money Select the appropriate Account from the list. Select the institution as the actual institution that holds the account. You should get the "You have n statements to read" screen. The account you just imported into should show the name account name followed by (1). Click that name. You should get the pop-up that says "Money found the following investment in your brokerage statement:". Select "This investment is already in my investment portfolio with a different name. I use the following investment in my investment portfolio to track this investment:". From the drop-down list, choose the stock you are trying to get rid of. Click Next. When you get the "Are you sure "Microsoft Stock" is the same investment as ZzzzA5?" (or is it the other way round), click Yes. If you get the screen that says "Do you want to change the ticker symbol for "Microsoft Stock" in Money from MSFT to ZzzzA6 to match the statement, I suggest you click Yes. Get the screen that says "The positions reported on nn/nn/nn statement don't match those in you Money account. Do you want to update your account to match the statement?". I would select No, but it is up to you. Click Finish. Now download from your broker for real. When you get asked about Microsoft stock, say you already have it under another name. Select the name you have been using. Now your broker and your Money file should be in harmony. Feel free to suggest improvements to this procedure. ========================Begin dis_sk.ofx======================== OFXHEADER:100 DATA:OFXSGML OLDFILEUID:NONE NEWFILEUID:NONE CHARSET:1252 VERSION:102 COMPRESSION:NONE ENCODING:USASCII SECURITY:NONE <OFX<SIGNONMSGSRSV1 <SONRS<STATUS<CODE> 0 <SEVERITY> INFO <MESSAGE> SUCCESS </STATUS<DTSERVER> 20040302 <LANGUAGE> ENG <DTPROFUP> 20030403 <DTACCTUP> 20040201 </SONRS> </SIGNONMSGSRSV1<INVSTMTMSGSRSV1 <INVSTMTTRNRS<TRNUID> ZzzzA1 <STATUS<CODE> 0 <SEVERITY> INFO <MESSAGE> Success so far with stock modification of symbol and CUSIP </STATUS <INVSTMTRS<DTASOF> 20040221 <CURDEF> USD <INVACCTFROM<BROKERID> YourBrokerOrZzzzA2 <ACCTID> YourAccountOrZzzzA3 </INVACCTFROM<INVPOSLIST <POSSTOCK<INVPOS<SECID<UNIQUEID> ZzzzA4 <UNIQUEIDTYPE> CUSIP </SECID<HELDINACCT> CASH <POSTYPE> LONG <UNITS> 0.01 <UNITPRICE> 01.00 <MKTVAL> 0.010 <DTPRICEASOF> 20040221 </INVPOS</POSSTOCK</INVPOSLIST </INVSTMTRS</INVSTMTTRNRS</INVSTMTMSGSRSV1 <SECLISTMSGSRSV1<SECLIST <STOCKINFO<SECINFO<SECID<UNIQUEID> ZzzzA4 <UNIQUEIDTYPE> CUSIP </SECID<SECNAME> ZzzzA5 <TICKER> ZzzzA6 </SECINFO</STOCKINFO </SECLIST</SECLISTMSGSRSV1</OFX =========================END dis_sk.ofx ======================== |

| I'm running into a frustrating problem that I'm hoping someone has an idea as to how to solve. For what ever reason, Money is trying to match an existing investment to a new investment. Everytime I download my investment statements, it sees I have X shares of MSFT, decides that it doesn't match the existing Microsoft investment, and creates a new investment of "Microsoft Stock". It then adds X shares (essentially doubling it) into the account. I've deleted the "Microsoft Stock" investment multiple times, but it keeps recreating it. How do I get it to match the correct and existing investment rather than creating this bogus one? I believe this came about in that when I set up online transactions, it couldn't identify the shares, and I accidentally set it to it's default rather than matching to the correct investment. I can't seem to get it to ask me this again, so I can match it correctly. Regards, Charles |
