Dick,

I didn't think of the msxml3 voodoo either. I should know better by now but
it never occurred to me in this case.

Unfortunately I had already uninstalled it and then did the re-registering
of the dll so I have no way of knowing if I completed to unnecessary steps.
I probably should test it out but honestly, I have other things that are
bigger on the plate to test than MS Money. :-)

Regardless, I know the solution I provided works as it has been tested and
if it helps someone then it is worth it, extra steps are not.

Thanks,

Interesting. I didn't think of the msxml3 voodoo. Did you try opening the
file after re-registering it without the uninstall/reinstall?

Glad to hear you got your issue solved. Thanks for the feedback.

Group,

Should you or any of your customers run into this issue, I believe I've
stumbled along the right solution to this problem with the help of MS Online
support.

1. Register the msxmll3.dll file (at the run prompt, type regsvr32
msxml3.dll)
2. Uninstall Money 200x
3. Reboot
4. Install Money 200x
5. Register the msxml3.dll file again

While this multi-step process is long winded, it does work. I'm now able to
get into my files with no problem and the application is running smoothly.

Thanks to all of you for your help and suggestions. That is how a newsgroup
is suppose to work!

Regards,

I know it doesn't help, but I have installed SP2 on the machine I have Money
2004 running on without any problems. Money 2004 still works fine. Sorry I
couldn't provide more help.

In a sick way, that's a good thing. It likely means, as you were suspecting,
that you just have a Money problem to fix. Good luck. Have you opened a
support case directly with Microsoft?

That could still be a data file problem--have you tried opening the sample
file? (My laptop got SP2 Monday night and I tested Money vs. my data file on
the desktop last night after reading your post. No problem found.)

Thanks for this information. This is helpful as it indicates it could be
something on my system and not Money in particular. I will do some
investigating.

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately this doesn't really apply in my
case. I'm the administrator of this PC and logged in as such and it isn't a
matter of not reading the file, it is the application itself failing to
start immediately.

Thanks,

I installed SP2 on two XP Pro computers, one with Money 2004 Standard and
the other with Money 2004 Premium. Money still works properly on both.

The user of the first computer is a member of power users and users, the
user of the second computer is a member of administrators, power users, and
users, in case the kb article in me[at]nospam.com 's earlier post is relevant.

Both computers had SP1 and all pre-SP2 updates before installing SP2.
Neither was a new install with a SP2 slipstreamed CD, or SP2 RTM installed
over one of the beta/RC versions of SP2.
