I would try installing the Microsoft Money trial into a different![]() folder or onto a different computer, and see if that will open a copy of your file. |

Using the same .NET passport that is tied to money.. so I know the .NET password is correct. I went out and bought one of those password cracking tools to see if it got screwed up.. nope, in fact, the password on the file is exactly the same as the password I thought it should be.. all the way back to backups from middle July. So, I've got the password right.. but when I try to login, I still get the message: "The password you entered was incorrect" I just don't know where to go from there. ![]() |

| You need to understand failure. Reliability is the mathematical product of the reliability of each and every potential failure point. Consider 10 failure points each with 99% reliability. The total reliability is .99*.99*.99*.99*.99*.99*.99*.99*.99*.99=~.90 What is the reliability of every program module for instance? How many modules? Is any program module 100% perfect? We all intuitively know that the more complex a system the greater the risk of failure. Now you know why and why it is so much more risky adding another layer of failure points like .NET and MS support and MS reputation for its Marketing Rules philosophy aka glitz sells. arthur ------ On 12 Aug 2004 23:59:11 -0700, (CR) wrote: - quote - > Or something similar. Or something similar. Yes, we backup frequently. But same issue with> correct. backups. Now, the Passport should not be the issue.. I'm successfully able to use this passport to login to microsot OEM services, etc. and it accepts it there. However, when I try to login to anything with money - even in offline mode - no go. And yes, I've looked at everything in the list at MS's site If mypassport works in everything else, just not money, and money won't even let me into recent backups *argh* Unsure. Not really worth my hastle. This thing really should have never been tied to .NET, even on a local machine.. anything that has to do with external authentication on your own data.. hmm. |

| I really don't see where the word _secured_ is valid. _Lost_ is more correct. | A backup won't help if your backup is also secured with Passport password. | No, it is also a Money issue if you secured your password with Passport. A friend is having this very issue, as well as others. http://tinyurl.com/4slwj Thanks for the link. | I completely give up on this product. I've got three years worth of business data in it that I now have no access to. I've been without access for almost three weeks, and the best response I get from MS support is: ----------------------- It's possible that some maintenance we are doing tonight on our web servers is causing intermittent Passport outages. You may have better luck signing in online later. (Yeah, I know that probably doesn't sound to reassuring, given our track record this week. Seriously, give it a try now and let me know what happens.) ----------------------- Yeah, not very re-assuring when I can't get billing out and for the last week they haven't responded to a single email I've sent. I have no idea how I'm going to re-construct all the data. At this point, I'm just going to pay for a third party to break the password, get the data out and switch to quickbooks. If MS wants to tie money and access to your own files to .NET, then the thing has to work EVERY TIME. You cannot tie a business to a system that is going to fail and lock someone out of their own data.. I mean, these are finances, people.. if I can't open up and see inventory and quarterlies, why did I ever bother using this thing? Bah! Almost 3 weeks trashed. |
