| thanks for your detailed reply. The error box that comes up doesn't give me the option to change the file path. When I do custom install I choose to install on the c drive at a very short path: C:\ or N:\. I still get the same error message though! Sorry. Any more ideas greatly appreciated. I am not sure if> Error 1320: the specified path is too long: N:\My settings. So the limit may not be 150 characters. It could be something higher -- perhaps 255. Such a limit is not shown in http://support.microsoft.com/default...21&Product=mny , but apparently there is a limit. One method to shorten the path would be to replace sections of the path with 8.3 style names. That means 8 characters followed by a period and a 3-character extension. That method exists to accommodate older programs that did not allow long names. The method is described in http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;142982 . Suppose you had a portion of the path that you want to use that is "...\Employee Data Files\Fredie Johnson\...", you could replace that with "...\Employ~1\FredieJ~1\..." |

| hi I get this error when I try to install money 2004. I run xp pro. Error 1320: the specified path is too long: N:\My settings. If I try a custom install and put money on the c drive I get the same error. I have previously installed this version with no problems, but had to have my laptop rebuilt for a modification on the network at work. Any ideas? thanks Edward |
