Hi Glenn B. (pkguy323[at]yahoo.com),
in the newsgroups
you posted:

<sigh> Another sadly uneducated newsgroup poster. Visit
www.microsoft.com/mvp for more information on how one is *awarded* MVP
status for prior accomplishments.

Well I see the MVPs as those who are knowledgable about the product and
have helped countless newsgroup users resolve their problems. I could slap
MVP beside my name cause I know the product and have posted a few times but
I wouldn't cause I don't think I deserve such a title as others are more
deserving. Dick Watson should be considered the Uber-MVP (along with Cal
and a few others) thanks to his countless posting and upkeep of the
Unofficial Money FAQ but he doesn't advertise this fact. If you get
countless emails from people seeking help, encourage them to post on this
newsgroup and you can reply to them here so that the masses can benefit
from your knowledge. Then possibly the title of MVP can be used
judiciously by yourself.

I don't think they are threatened by self-proclaimed MVPs, it's just there
is a heirarchal structure in place that seems to be working very well. I
don't think posting a few times a year is deserving of MVP status and many
times people give out the wrong advice. MVPs are here to point us in the
right direction and have done so for some time and they do so with
countless hours of their time. Being an MVP is a privelage that is rightly
bestowed upon those who deserve it. There is nothing wrong with that.

Ion,

I appreciate your support. I guess you have to have helped enough people to
warrant MVP. Sometimes helping just one person should be enough. They can't
count the emails I've received that aren't poste here. Analogies aside, if
M$ has a set of rules, they should communicate them better, and, if the
official MVP's feel that the club is threatened by self-proclaimed MVP's,
then that is a whole other issue I don't have time or money to assist with.
Besides, MVP's are people who went to M$ and said. "I should be MVP!" and
were granted that title. So I'm not any different-I just proclaimed it to
the wrong crowd.

Sounds to me like you all the ones with a serious issue on this. This is an
issue on this (and I assume other) forum. I learned long ago that a name is
just a name. I think it was 5th grade maybe. I'm REALLY surprised that if
someone adds "MVP" to the end of their name, someone else goes and looks it
up. Perhaps I'm not the one who needs to grow up...

The point is MVP is a title to be earned, NOT self proclaimed!!! So, I

You don't think it's a free world? I thought it was. Most of what I see
seems to indicate it is (at least in the US)...

BTW comparing unlicensed practicing doctors (or imitators of any other
degreed professional) to people who tack the MVP title to the end of their
sig is a laughably poor analogy.

i think they said he should apply if he feels he has done enough to become
an mvp. looking at this group and others, you need to help a lot of people
to become an mvp - i dont see that from glenn b. however nothing to stop him
applying but breaking his nda on money beta wouldnt help his cause

personally i look at postings from mvps to help me - you might not. some of
us have problems with software on how to fix. glenn isnt helping me at all.
yeah sometimes they may make a mistake but posting 2000 posts a year id
expect some

ms own the mvp brand as far as i can see. they award people. why not just
call yourself an MCSE or an MCP, or even claim you have degrees you dont.
its the same thing as youre proposing. why not call yourself a doctor and
then practice on patients. its a free world?? rubbish.

As in they've extended you an invitation?!?! GREAT!

If you mean they told you to change your sig line, etc, I say "blow me".
It's a free world and they cannot prevent you from putting whatever you want
in your line (about time to start posting as "Bill Gates" again). As far as
I'm concerned, any time you post in this forum, you need to have "MVP" by
your name.

And if some sore-loser MVP went and tattled because you put three letters
beside your name and their little computer-nerd egos were hurt, then MVP is
one of the more pathetic things on the web right now...

Looks like the old "MVP" gripe has not died in the year I've been off this
forum. For pete's sake, just get over someone using the MVP title. You
can't stop them from using and who honestly cares. I don't pay any more
attention to an MVP's post than I do a regular one. In fact, SOME MVP posts
have actually had erroneous information that I had to correct (on a
different forum). Give it a rest people. please

Glenn B, if you beta-tested Money 2k5 and got even ONE bug fixed, you ARE an
MVP in my eyes...

Sounds like someone's jealous they're not a beta tester... If you hate
Money so much, buy Quicken...

If your computer will not run anything but 2000 and 2001, then no, there is
no reason for you to upgrade. It is unlikely that MS will retroactively
bring older systems into the fold (thankfully).

But, with regards to the Microsoft MVP award, one doesn't name themselves an
MVP, they are given the award by Microsoft for their past contributions to
the community. If you feel you should be awarded with regards to the bugs
you filed, I would recommend contacting the beta lead and asking them about
the MVP Program (admittedly, they may not be able to answer it, but they
would be the best first step.)

Well, bummer for you I am not a know-it-all. I didn't beta test the version
you mention. Maybe you should beta test next year.
