Thank you Dapper Dobbs, and Sgt Sausage for providing some data points.> area probably influences the price quote. Of course, the location matters for almost any kind of nsurance. I recon the risk of being sued in a rural area is a lot less than in the suburbs. Anyway, I am in the San Francisco Bay Area, in a suburb, small bedroom community. Don't own a plane, or boat, water ski, etc. No pool in backyard. Any one else have any comments, or internet links? Cal, where art thou? |

Can't give you any details -- the wife set it up several years ago (I don't know what carrier) but ours is a $1 million policy and it costs us just over $300 a year. You're at leaset in the right ballpark. |

| My home and automobile insurance policies are with Mercury, through an independent insurance broker. One a year at renewal time, I use quotesmith.com to get a new quote, to make sure that the premiums from my current carrier are not out-of-whack. Sometimes, I also quotes from companies like Amex, State Farm, Allstate, etc. So, far Mercury's rates have been quite good. We have ZERO DMV points, and accident-free, claim-free experience for 10 years, and no claim, ever, on home insurance. Now we would like to supplement our 250K/500K automobile coverage with an umbrella policy for one million. I called my independent insurance broker, and she gave a quote of $243/year. Now, I have no way of knowing whether this quote is good, lousy, average, etc. Are there any online resources for getting umbrella policy? Without getting quotes from a few places, it is hard to say whether the current quote is good or bad. All inputs greatly appreciated. |
