I have a Roth IRA at Scottrade. I can do anything with it that I could
do with any other cash account there. I currently have about 4 stocks
(2 of them are foreign ADR's), 2 mutual funds, an exchange traded debt
security (a type of bond that trades on the NYSE), and about 4% cash.
The cash earns a pitiful interest rate and there's no good place to park
cash. :-(

I think Scottrade allows you to write covered call options in a cash
account if you sign an options agreement, but you can't buy puts or calls.

The fees are low, the list of available mutual funds is vast, the
service is good but not great, the processing of dividends from foreign
stocks is clumsy and inefficient.

Hope this helps,
Bob

Default New Scottrade Roth IRA

I have a quick question about a Roth IRA I just opened with Scottrade.
When I fund the account, what can I do with the money? Am I free to
invest in shares of stocks, mutual funds, etc? Or does the money just
sit in the account? Thanks.
