Custodial fees, administrative fees, fees per employee, Form 5500 preparation fees, etc. For example: http://www.micro401k.com/feeschedule.htm ($1700 admin fee + $24/participant - add $200/brokerage account) The vast majority of employees do not know what the plan costs their employer, nor are they even aware that there are any fees at all. In this, you are not alone. Not a big deal for large companies, but a significant cost for cash-strapped startups. - quote - > Have you checked with major discount brokers? Fidelity does not charge

| Hey again, I've been having some difficulty finding a custodian that will start a solo 401(k) for my wife's business at a reasonable cost (and with a Roth option). A Google search yesterday brought a new hit to the top of the list: http://www.401kbrokers.com/ These guys are interesting as they supposedly allow you to set up a 401(k) at institutions that don't normally have 401(k)s. Like E-Trade. I guess from E-Trade's perspective, it's just another account since the paperwork is handled by the folks behind the website above. And a .25% fee is the least expensive that I've found. Anybody have experience with these folks (or something similar)? Thanks! -Will |
