How old are you? If you're below 59 1/2 an IRA isn't very liquid. CDs
have early withdrawl penalties too. What was the CD length? If you're
looking for gurantees you're not gonna do much better than 5%
(bankrate.com). If your willing to take a small risk you could put
together a very conservative portfolio that would expose you to the
market and possibly give you a better return.

You might put 20% in the Euro ETF FXE as an inflation hedge.

You could do a "ladder" of 13 3-month IRA CDs, which would give you
1-week liquidity.
Or 6 6-month IRA CDs, or 12 1-year IRA CDs, etc. for 1-month liquidity.

Current yield on Vanguard's Prime Money Market is 4.78%.

The best you could do is to stay short, 3 mo CD. You could always buy
t-bills due one month out, but that would be annoying pretty quickly.
The combination of preservation and liquidity points to that.

Default Question: Alternative to IRA CD

-------

Right now, I am just looking for pure capital preservation in my IRA
account. However, I am looking for an alternative to buying IRA CDs
because I want something more liquid.

I can get close to 5% right now with an IRA CD. Does anyone know what
else I can buy besides an IRA CD that will give me a good return, is
liquid, and is safe like an IRA CD?

I am open to any mutual fund, ETF, NTF, bond, etc. Does anyone have
any suggestions?

Thanks everyone, I appreciate it.
