Default Re: rating service for trust companies?

Unfortunately I do not think that there is one single source that
provides a rating for trust compaies. The best way to find out about a
trust company is to ask a couple of financial professionals who have
worked with that company. In my practice, I have worked with many
trust companies that will not even pick up the phone after a client has
delivered their money to the trust company (as the more they pay out,
the less they make). This is very common for trust companies after the
person with the money has passed away. I don't know if any rating
system would tell you about that.

Also you will want to be wary of fees. Trust companies make a lot of
money off of selling proprietary investments (i.e., their own funds),
performing unnecessary trust functions (such as imposing trust
termination fees) -- and in exchange they will do very little for you.
You should consider hiring a financial advisor (and including
registered investment advisor and trust protector langauge in your
trust).

Best of luck.
