How about going down to your local bank and buying a regular old
US savings bond? Easy to do, risk free, and the grandson can cash
it in just about anywhere at some point in the future when the money
is needed.

Default Bond for High School Graduate?

A friend of mine said we wanted to buy a bond for his grandson for
graduation. I told him to buy a stock mutual fund, but he has it in his mind
to buy a bond. Which kind would be best?
