W,

Rarely will someone consider a stock investment a way to hold cash. To
convert to cash implies you want to be liquid and have access to real
cash without the possibility of a short term loss from a market
correction.

As Elle points our your objectives are critical. Hence, until you
clarify why you want to hold cash (purpose, time frame, how quickly you
might want to access the cash) there is no correct answer.

What are your investing goals for this cash? Long- or
short-term? For retirement or for a new roof next year? The
timeframe tends to identify how much risk one can take,
which then tends to identify the optimal vehicle into which
one should put one's cash.

Do you have an allocation plan for your retirement savings?

Also, can you indicate your approximate tax bracket and how
important it is to minimize taxes on the earnings from this
investment?
